Diminishing abrasives, how to tell when they are broken down?

Todd,

Are you saying the *original* swirl marks may still be there because the polish didn't have enough time to remove them? Or, is it because you didn't break down the abrasives long enough, therefore, the abrasives will leave swirl marks/hazing behind?

Both. If you didn't remove the existing marks then they will still be there (but this is depends on the condition of the paint originally) but more the polish itself will likely leave behind visible marks (if not broken down).

IIRC it was a black Lake Country (or Meg's So1o finishing) pad, Menzerna PO85rd, and a Makita rotary.
