Diluting Product: Tap Or Distilled Water?

Just bought some APC and was wondering what everyone uses to dilute it.

For my ONR QD I used distilled water knowing I won't get spotting or residue on paint but for something that will usually get rinsed off like APC, will distilled water be overkill?

Same question with water based dressings like Megs HD.

Unless you are mixing several gallons I would stick with distilled. It's really cheap and probably mixes better chemically since it doesn't have minerals and other ionic stuff going on. Either way, you would probably be ok, but for a gallon or two why mess around ?

Would be kind of like mixing budweiser into your harpoon ale...ha ha

I don't think it would make even the slightest bit of difference. You;re not washing the paint with APC. you're using it to scrub down with. So spoting wouldn't even be on the radar of things to worry about. Distilled is cheap but tap is usually free. and in this case it's really not going to make any difference at all.

^ Agreed. If was something that need to be pure for optical clarity I would use distilled water but for something thats going to be rinsed away like APC i would just use tap. Hyperdressing gets tap also because spotting doesnt really happen on rubber and plastic, and if it does its user error with uneven application.

Unless your water is really bad I can't imagine it making a diff. I use deionized water for ONR/QD/etc. but otherwise I just use tap water.

For QDs, ONR, and glass cleaner I use distilled water. APCs, degreasers, wheel cleaners, and the like all get tap since theyll all get rinsed away anyways.

i use ro/deionized water for everything only because i have a ro/di machine. if i didn't i would use tap water for anything that will be rinsed.

I use distilled water for ONR and other rinseless washes, Woolite mixing, and my steamer. I never dilute anything in huge amounts, so if something calls for dilution, I use distilled.

Yeah, I need to start doing that. Just got the Daimer back from a rebuild that I blame on my leaving tap water in the thing :o

If I'm not gonna drain it/descale it the way I should, the distilled water oughta at least help.

I'm guilty of not emptying the steamer each time also. That's why I was so (unusually) careful about filling it with distilled right from the beginning.

Tap if its just a general APC.

QD's, Glass cleaners, anything else that goes on the paint gets distilled though.
