Different question: Putting decal ON vehicle

Well, I hate to have it come to this, but our parking garage wants us to adhere to the rules and actually place a parking decal on the rear bumper of the vehicle. As much times as I have moaned about this, it will be inevitable that I must comply to this.



So, the question is, what kind of prep is recommended to my paint BEFORE I put the decal on so that when I take it off, it won't be a pain to do so?



I would assume washing and drying is a given along with maybe some wax before it goes on?
 
They won't settle for on the rear window? :wall



I'm not sure what to tell you. Perhaps put down a piece of the clear-bra material first. Any shop that installs them should be able to get you a piece of scrap.
 
Unfortunately, can't put it on the rear window. This would have been a lot better. But the lot says, no dice. I was thinking of a plate that attaches next to the tags.......
 
that is a stupid rule. i cant believe that they dont have the common sense to realize that some people care about their cars and dont want a sticker on their paint, which can cause a different shade of paint.

No doubt! I see many Lexus', Inifiniti's, Acura's, BMW's who have done this. I totally agree. But I guess not many care about their car.
 
I would definately check into the clear bra material and adhere the sticker to that. Many places offer it. Griots sells it by the roll. Its a cheap investiment.
 
I checked out Griot's, but it says not for plastic bumpers and repainted vehicles. My car has a plastic bumper, so this means I can't use it? I guess more people use this for the hood.
 
It was a factory option for both my car and my GF's car, which both have plastic bumpers. I don't know why it wouldn't be for plastic. The "invisi-shield" that we were offered is made by 3M. Don't know where to get it, though. Maybe your car dealer has small quantities? Paint and body shop? Online aftermarket?
 
Put a square piece of clear film on very clean paint. Put your sticker on a thin "refrigerator type" magnet (able to purchase a lot of places). put that magnet over the clear film when needed.
 
The square piece of film sounds good to me. But I'd have to get 2 of them because the bumper is plastic.



About the tag next to the license plate, not sure on this. But I have seen cars out in the lot that do have it. I think I just may go that route.
 
Your bumper is plastic??? umm will they let you put it on your trunk if so......



Can you use a magnet type thing? Just stick it on a magnet and put it on, so you can take it off when your out and put it on your bumper when your there, but don't lose it :I. That would turn ugly, if you cant use a magnet, then im not too sure what to tell you. Run that idea to them, if not MOVE. lol. jk. What a stupid rule.
 
+1 to the magnet thing, i know the bumper is plastic, but you can always put the other magnet on the backside of the bumper
 
I was able to use an aluminum plate and stuck the sticker on that. Then, I drilled a hole in the plate and was able to use the same hole for the license plate and voila! Done deal. The parking people will just have to look next to the license plate. I have seen at least 5 other cars doing this and if they get me, well, they have to get them too.

Lol, good idea :idea. Only a true Autopian would have gone through all that trouble.
