Different PC 7424 question.

I picked up what I thought was a 7424 at my buddies pawn shop for cheap with the intent to use as a sander, not a polisher.

After taking the backing plate off, it has a 5 in counter weight (with a 6 inch backing plate).

Since this is just for sanding, am I going to run into any issues, or should I just bite the bullet and buy a 6 in counter weight.

I picked it up for $40...wooo!

All the Porter Cable random orbit dual-action polishers are sanders, so yours is no different from one purchased for polishing PC. The counterweight is important for using the thin, lightweight sanding disks, but not so much an issue when using a foam polishing pad.

I get that. I guess my main concern was for sanding, will it work as it came (6 inch backing pad, but 5 in counter weight) I.E. the person who pawned it mixed and match.

Does it not say for 5" only?

Sorry, that's what I get for partially reading a post! It will work, but will work better with the correct size backing plate. Probably easier to find a different backing plate than a counter weight.

When the 7424 is used as a sander dont they come with a backing plate with holes and a hood for dust collection? Don't know if this is just for collection or to keep dust out of the PC itself and burning it up.
