I have some question that I hope you all could answer since I am considering going to smaller pads. Right now I have a PC 7427, non XP, and LC CCS 6.5" pads. I am not a professional, only a hobbyist who keeps his vehicles in good shape, so before the 6.5 worked well for me. I tried taking out some recent water etching on the hood of my car, and only got some of them out, alot still remain everywhere on it. I figured the next step is to try a smaller pad, but just wanted to see if there is much of a learning curve in swapping to the 5.5"s.
Will using the same polishes on the same pads only smaller make any difference? I used Danase Swirl Abolisher II on an orange and Swirl Abolisher II on a white with the LC CCS pads.
I am kind of worried about taking off too much of the clear finish or burning through it with the smaller pads? I know that as long as you keep moving you should be fine, but I know speed and pressure on the machine and pad has a big effect too. With the 6.5" pads I put some heavy pressure on them to try and get correction going, not to the point that it stopped the pad from rotating though, and used speed 6. Should I lighten up on the pressure with the 5.5" pads and speed?
Is there a point I can tell when too much pressure or speed is being applied before I start to cause any finish damage?
I think I am going to try the LC CCS pads first compared to a flat pad so I can get the hang of it. The Flat pads look a lot thinner compared to the CCS, so I am hoping that the holes in dimples and larger thickeness of it will give me some safe adjustment curve
Any other tips that you all could give me or things I should look for when going to a 5.5" pad on the PC 7424?
