Difference between PC7424 and Meguiars G100??

never herd of it. i just herd the 7424 was the industry standard and thats good enough for me. but then i see the G100 on megs. site and im wondering about that now.

I believe they are the same machine but the Megs has a higher cost and better warrantee.



BTW, I have the PC7424 and have had no problems.

huh i found that the megs g100 was cheaper then the 7424. thats why im asking if they're the same cuz of course id go with the cheaper one.
 
The funny thing is that this gets discussed soooo often that it’s difficult to search for one thread that mentions all the details.



Yes, the Porter-Cable 7424 (and 7335 and 7336) and the G100 are the same basic machine, which is why they are both referred to generically as the PC.



The Meguiar’s G100 comes with a 5� soft hook and loop backing plate, a W8006 polishing pad and a lifetime warranty.



The Porter-Cable 7424 comes with a screw-on foam pad.



The Porter-Cable 7336 comes with a 6� hard hook and loop backing plate for sandpaper.



The Porter-Cable 7335 comes with a 5� hard backing plate (don’t know if it’s H&L or PSA) for sandpaper.



The Porter-Cable branded machines come with a one year warranty.



All also come fitted with one of two counterweights that are intended to compensate for plate/sandpaper weight. The 7335 come with a counterweight intended for its 5� plate and the 7336 has a counterweight intended for its 6� plate. I don’t remember which weights come on the G100 or 7424 but it doesn’t matter since most everybody says they can’t feel any difference when using polishing pads.

That's a surprise ... how much is the G100? I've seen the 7424 for around $100 if I remember and the G100 was more than that.

i think i just saw on megs site that the basic g100 is 75$. then they have kits with pads and some polishing stuff for like $110

... but to be fair, I've bought a few detailing supplies I didn't really NEED either :nixweiss
 
IMO the G100 is a rip-off. PC's are very tough little buggers to begin with making the extra $125 in insurance and the megs name on it pointless.



Very rarely do you see a thread about someones PC dying on them. It happens but it is rare.
 
When purchased as a kit, Rick's prices @ autodetailingsolutions dotcom on the G100 is comparable to the kits the other places sell. A lot of people were confused about the lifetime warranty issue. Apparently, if you do not buy it directly from Meguiar's, you do not get a lifetime warranty. i.e., I purchased mine from ADS. If anything were to happen to my PC/G100, Meguiar's would not honor any warranty, but Rick should since he offers a lifetime warranty on it. The problem with that is, what if Rick goes out of business?



It's been discussed before with the whole warranty issue and it bugs me that Meguiar's doesn't want to honor their lifetime warranty from an authorized reseller. IMO, I wouldn't spend the extra money for the warranty.
 
well i was looking at the UDM and there was a huge thread about people complaing on the on/off switch being in a really bad spot or it easily being turned on...supposedly they were working on a new version
 
UDM is offering FREE retrofit for the switch "problem", which, by the way, I don't believe would be a deal-breaker for someone who's never used a PC before. I'm ordering my UDM next month (still saving for it).
