Difference Between Holograms & Micromarring

IMO, hologramming is more uniform while micromarring is more random.
Holograms are caused by improper use of a rotary (too extreme of an angle or too little product) causing all the marring to be at a similar depth and angle. This is why it looks like a 'hologram' because all the scratches reflect the light in the same direction.
Micromarring is caused by random bits of dirt or debris caught in the pad or wash mit. The damage is not uniform or as frequent as with holograms. Micromarring can also be used as a general term for clear coat damage to encompass holograms, swirls, etc.

hollogramming is circular in nature from a polisher
micromarring can be circular from hand application or straightline from product removal. MF towels will micromar if too much pressure is used.

in my experience, micromarring is a lot more common that hologramming
