I called my local Lowes and it seemed the guy didnt know what he was talking about. Are they the same thing? Do all 7336's come with a 6inch backing plate and counterweight? Also, is the cheapest accessory kit I need cost $70 shipped from CMA? Do Autopia members get any discount? I know its a lot of questions but this is my first post.

They are the same, the SP signifies a "Sander/Polisher". The SP comes with a sanding disk and a polishing pad.

Buy the PC DM KIT from CMA. This will give you everything you need to get going. Right now, I do not think there is a CMA Discount available. I think these will be one around Christmas from what I've heard.

The 7336 and 7336SP are the same thing, they just come with different accessories. The "SP" stands for Sander/Polisher. It comes with a polishing head and a sanding plate, the straight 7336 does not. The 2 machines are idential though.

Not for polishing a car, unless you intend to use the pad from Porter Cable. You get the polishing head with the 7336, but you don't get the sanding plate.

I suggest you get the kit from CMA that comes with the backing plate (hook & loop) and all the pads you will need.

Actually you get the sanding plate but not the polishing pad with the 7336. The SP buys you the polishing pad and (maybe) a bottle of Meg's wax.

I made a thread on this that is long, but detailed. BUT since the server outage disregard the advice about the counterweight matching the backing pad - just get the 6" weight. I have to re-update the thread today sometime.

Would the Coastal Tools 7242 package they have available be worth checking into? Has some polishing accessories with it, good price, reasonable shipping.
