Difference between 106fa and po85?

Hey guys, im about to get into the polishing world and just picked up a porter cable so I can learn on that before moving up to a rotary. I orded some SIP and 106fa and numerous pads. I havent gotten them yet or tried it out but 106fa and po85 both have the same gloss level but 106fa has higher cut. I see most people prefer the po85, is there any reason for that or is it because most people use rotaries? I was planning on using SIP with an orange pad then the 106fa with a white pad. I know theres several threads about this but ive never used any of the products so I cant really compare. Thanks
 
I can't see a gloss difference between 85RD and 106FF...so as your instinct tells you, why bother using something with less cut that finished down the same. If others have found different, that's fine...but a year or so ago when I was "testing" the two products, whenever I'd come across "finicky" black paint, I'd do a side by side comparison. I'd generally test with the rotary (to see which was easier to buff without leaving buffer swirls) and then also with the PC whereby I'd intentionally apply more pressure than "normal" to see which left less micro-marring from the abrasive particles; in both cases, 106 finished just as well as 85RD. I should also mention that both products were significantly better than anything else out there in this regard...only thing that finishes as well now is UF...but again, much less cut and same finish as 106FF.

I AGREE i found that 85rd even with an extra pass or two cant compete with the cutting power of nano 106ff and finish out exactly the same imho nano wins less work same results :xyxthumbs

Many people don't notice a different between the two......but there is a fine line.



The PO85RD with a blue LCC pad jewels the paint better than 106FF.



Both the 106FF and PO85RD arn't ment to correct much swirls, it is rather to bring maximum gloss out of the paint
 
I'm thinking about buying PO203 Power Finish and was curious as to if it finishes down well enough that a pass with PO85rd would be sufficient. I'm on empty with my last bottle of 106FF and wasn't sure if I could live without it for the time being.

SIP

106FF (swap with PO203)

85rd

LSP
 
106FF won't remove holograms for me on soft clears...



Well let me rephrase that:



106FF via Flex DA and LC Green won't remove holograms left from M105+Wool+Rotary on soft clears. I HAVE to follow up with a finishing polish to remove micro marring and rotary induced holograms. Since 85RD ~ equal to UFSE I'm going to assume 85RD has it's purpose in removing micro marring and rotary induced holograms as a FINISHING polish step.



FYI-I don't have this problem on normal paints.
