i use QD for small touchups, but:

read a alot of post about FI, and some for FD.

what are the uses of FI and FD?

and how do they differ from QD?

TIA for any responses. :bow

Ill take a shot here, not 100%, but one of the differences is that FD has come carnauba (or however you spell it) and FI does not. FD is also much cheaper at $16 a gallon.

The differences are the FI is Body Shop safe (non-silicones-paintable. Megs FD is not Body Shop safe and does have some silicones in it.

I just got a sample of FD and I must say it does do a nice job. I believe it goes for around $17 a gallon.

I'm not sure about FI, but FD is a pretty pink color, and smells really good.

FD is my QD of choice (unless I'll be adding wax or something after). I use QD's mainly for light dust, pollen, and water spots from rain. FD does a good job cleaning these minor things, and adds a very nice gloss to the paint. Works very well as a clay lube as it is very slick. It is easy to use, and even works on my windows. Plus at about $16/gallon, it is very economical for me.

Matter of fact, I just used it on my car to remove the pollen blanket that is starting to cover everything (the north has snow, the south has pollen).

thanks for the replies, the murky waters are becoming clearer.

if im getting it right, both FD and FI are essentially "quick detailers",

marketed in the pro line as opposed to QD in the consumer line.

FD has silicone, FI does not, and so FI is body shop safe.

so... if i plan using a good amount of a "quick detailer" product,

FD is just that, at a significant savings over QD at approx $5/pint

so buy the FD for $16/gal and "quick detail" and clay away, right?

thanks again for the responses.

I haven't used FD, but I use FI and QD fairly regularly.

My car has got several coats of Klasse on it, and I like the fact that FI doesn't seems to do well with Klasse SG.

FI doensn't really deepen the shine, but it does a great job of getting rid of dust, bird bombs. It leave the car looking like it was just washed.

I'm not sure what the difference between QD and FI is, to be honest. They both smell and feel the same. But, FI, is dirt cheap when purchased by the gallon.
