Detailing with 3M Imperial Hand Glaze

Hi, I am new to detailing and find lots of useful tips here. But I need some help for the first wax on 3-month new car.

I am thinking of doing it in 3 steps - Clean/Glaze/wax

1. Clean with Eagle one wet wash

2. Glaze with 3M Imperial Hand Glaze (Repair minor scratch)

3. Complete with One Grand Blitz Wax

So my concern is, will the 3M IHG remove the old wax or another cleanse is needed in between step 1 and 2?

Are these 3steps good enough to shine and protect the new car's body? Is there anything I have to beware of?

Thank you for your help in advance! All input are appreciated!

Skip the Eagle one and use dawn , it will strip off all organic waxes. Use 3M's swirl mark remover or 3M's Finesse IT2 they are much better than IHG , as they don't hide swirls they remove them they also polish better , and yes they will remove old wax. For protection use Klasse All In One and Sealant Glaze. Klasse is very good selant not a wax , it is much more durable than organic waxes. I do like to top Klasse with One Grands Blitz wax for more depth.

I recomend you read the car car articles on the index of this site, and old posts, also search around the archives for lots of useful info.

Klasse is a great acrylic sealant that prodvides shine and the Blitz on top of that (carnauba) provides depth and warmth to the paint.

What make is your car? What color is it? how's the paint finish? how much time do you dedicate to cleaning your car?

Jason is the man. I can give you a list of a 100 products but if you don't know what they are and how to use them they will do you no good. Like Jason said READ!

Thank you, Andre' and Jason. It is a 2001.5 VW Passat GLS 1.8T, Blue Silver. I can spend as long as it needs to make the car perfect.

I hear lots of good things about Klasse AIO and SG, are they safe on the new paint? What is the difference between 3M IHG and 3M SMR, they both claims able to remove swirl mark? Also from other forums, people said AIO can remove the 3M IHG, so will 3M SMR remove by AIO as well?

Okay, so here is the steps I will do:

1. Wash the car with Dawn - dish detergent

2. Remove the old wax and swirl mark with 3M Swirlmark remover

3. 1 layer of Klasse AIO

4. 1 layer of Klasse SG

5. Complete with 1 layer of One Grand Blitz Wax.

Pls correct if there is anything wrong, thank you for the input.

1. Since your going to use one of 3M's polishes, I do not recommend using dawn as a wash. Just use a regular car wash shampoo (Meguiars Gold Class, P21S, Sonax, Pinnacle, etc.).

2. Then after the wash, I would check for oxidation. If its mildy oxidized try a paint cleanser like Pinnacle Paintowrk Cleaning Lotion, P21S paint cleaner, Zymol Hd LCeanse, if these products do not make the surface silky smooth, i would caly the surface with Mother's clay since it seems to be available at Pep boys, K-mart and the like. If you have the cash, Pinnacle's clay kit is worth it.

3. For swirl marks I recommend 3M Finesse It II (finishing material). I have heard 3M SMR is very mild and may take a day to remove swirls from a car. The Finesse It being a little bit more abrasive than 3M SMR.

4. I would apply one coat of Klasse AIO, multiple (3-5) coats of Klasse SG, and finally the concours application of blitz. the klasse will not hurt the paint, its a very good acrylic sealant that will last for a long time (6-9 months)

5. The concours application of blitz would be waxing the car after the Klasse as usal. then removing it, then apply blitz to a panel (hood, trunk, door panel) and remove immediatly (do not let frost over like directions say), apply to half the panel and remove immediately, apply to the other half of the panel and remove immediately. This does not increase protection, but shine and depth is enhanced. I don't know how it works but it works for me.

6. I qould maintain by washes when necessary, and frequent dustings with the Cali. car duster (just got mine from K-mart for less than $10, let it sit on nespaper for 2 days per instructions), and a QD such as Clear Pearl or Show off.

I am guessing the color is a mix between and blue and silver? Is it a dark or light color?

Anyhow, With the rich technique and quality time with your ride, your going to make it shine.

Jason,

Thank you so much for your advice. Just one more question. How do I remove the old AIO and SG for the next detailing, would the AIO remove the previous coats of AIO and SG. Thank you once again!

Hi Zippy, I'm not Jason, but he's probably out working on one of the cars he maintains!

Using All-In-One and Sealant Glaze, you can get up to a years protection with that. Topping it with Blitz would extend your protection.

If you would like to go the simply Klasse route, You could do it twice a year, as the major seasons change. I like to Klasse/Blitz before summer, and before winter. All-In-One will remove previous layers of protection. Have fun.
