Well, I think I’ve finally recuperated enough from this weekend’s heat exhaustion to be able to post some of my recollections.
This year’s event was very similar to last year’s gathering - an extremely friendly group of people gathered together in celebration of a common interest. We all love shiny cars and are always looking for better ways to achieve our ultimate details. Thanks to Steve at Poorboys and Charlie at Rockland County Chevrolet Buick, we were given a place to meet and try out a variety of products/techniques for free. :cool
Mike5959, Melissa (Mike’s wife), 69 GTO Judge, Poorboy, and I arrived around 8:30am on Saturday morning to do the setup work. Unfortunately, there was some miscommunication amongst the dealership folks regarding the arrangement of the lot and the start time of the event. :huh To make a long story short, we really had to scramble to move cars and get the tents/tables set up. We weren’t quite ready by the planned 10am kickoff, but with the help of some early arrivers we got the show on the road.
By noon, things were well underway. Steve and GSRStilez were giving rotary demos and several people got to try their hand at using a Cyclo. People were also trying out some of the brand new products (Bug Squash and a prototype leather cleaner/conditioner) as well as some old favorites. Each attendee was also presented with a 16 ounce bottle of prototype air freshener for a door prize. :dancin
Speaking of prizes, big thanks go to Danase.com and Specialtymotoring.com for their generous contributions. :bow Bob and Brad at Danase donated a huge box of Lake Country PC pads, hand applicators, wash mitts, and a Grit Guard for our use. Scott at Specialty Motoring provided two sets of giveaway prizes.
On-site food was a new addition for this year. We tried to keep the menu as simple as possible. Steve purchased a little tabletop grill, which of course came disassembled.

Thankfully, 69 GTO Judge and Hondaman’s brother were able to put the thing together and figure out how to start it up. :flameon Otherwise, we would have been eating cold dogs. :bigscream
After lunch, people continued working on their own cars or helped out with other people’s car. Steve’s friend from Ford Truck World had dropped off his custom painted pickup for some much needed paint correction :eek, so a few folks pitched in with that as well.
Several dealership customers wandered by to see what was going on. Some of them couldn’t figure out why anyone would drive from so far away just to wash and wax their cars. :crazy That didn’t stop a couple of them from trying to crash our party and swipe some of our door prizes. :ticked Shortly afterwards, two more people showed up who weren’t on the guest list. I was about ready to shoo them away too, but then they said they were lurkers on DC. Turns out, they were a couple of very nice Autopians (Setec Astronomy and JRdetailerwoman) who were more than welcomed to join us. Setec even won the drawing for the Specialty Motoring giveaway prize for that day.
By late afternoon, the heat was just getting to be too much. :drool We decided to start wrapping up around 4:00pm to get ready for the dinner event. A lot of people stepped up to help take down and store the pop-up tents and folding tables, so we were able to clean up fairly quickly.
About a dozen people participated in the dinner event. It took place at one of the best Chinese buffets in the county. Besides Chinese food, Italian and American food were also in abundance so everyone was able to find plenty to eat. And, eat we did. :hungry It was also nice to just be able to sit down at a table and get to know each other a little better. After dinner, a handful of folks went on to the Candlewood Suites for a few brews and a little more conversation. :beer
The second day started off much more easily than the first day since the parking lot was already arranged. Focusedonsound and the group that stayed overnight at the Candlewood also showed up in time to help set up the tents/tables.
For most of the morning, we only had a small turnout. Since everyone there had pretty much finished detailing their cars the previous day (except for poor Holland_Patrick and that black Trans Am

), a lot of time was spent playing with a practice panel that Beercan31 brought. GSRStilez wrote up a nice description of that activity, so I won’t repeat it here. I will say that it did serve to prove that Pro Polish is a very versatile product in the hands of a skilled detailer.
By the early afternoon, more people started rolling in. Some had been there the previous day, while others were newcomers. Steve presented PB vinyl window decals to the people that attended the entire 2 day event. :jump The hot weather also showed up on the second day to prove that Poorboy’s products could easily be used in direct sunlight and high temps. In particular, the new “blue” products were put to the test on a variety of finishes. We even tried the “spit shine” approach when removing Natty’s Blue. A little spritz of S&G really did seem to make the product easier to remove and left an even glossier finish. :wow
The afternoon brought us another hotdog grilling session (thanks for standing by the hot stove Liz :flamed) as well as the second giveaway prize drawing. Mgm2003 won the drawing, but he wasn’t there to claim the prize as the rules required. :boohoo So, Hondaman benefited from Mgm’s absence and claimed the prize on the second drawing.
Alas, all things must come to an end. The dealership had to close up shop by 4pm, so we started cleaning up around 3:30. This was an exceptionally friendly and helpful group of folks, so everyone that was still on-site pitched in to help tear down the tents and display tables in record time. When everything was stowed away, we wished each other safe journeys back home and officially brought the event to a close. :bye
