Detailing the House?

I hate cleaning the house and most yard work. Have to say though that I enjoy cutting grass now that I have a riding mower. Kind of like a go-cart (spin marks were evidence of the fun, LOL). :D

Let's just say my car is cleaner than my room...lol

Let's not forget thevolvoguy's Zainoed toilet from a few years back!

Riding mower would be fun lol, problem is where we live now the grass is on a steep incline, I'd have to put a roll cage on that mower!

Our house has a lagoon behind it with a steep bank that is grass. Sure hope I never push the mower to its limits and end up in the lagoon with the 'gators. LOL

I was thinking about the comments made regarding people waxing their appliances and porcelain. I was recalling that my mother used to use a wax product on her kitchen stuff all the time back in the 50's and 60's.

It was Johnson's Jubilee... I looked it up and it was sort of an AIO for the house.

So...early Mom's were Autopians!

Interesting thread!

Just last night I detailed the master bath countertop with AIO/SG. The sink was pretty badly swirled from previous cleaning, so I hit it with 3M FCRC, 1ZPP, then AIO/SG. The countertop is very dark "granite-style" cultured marble and it came out great!

I've used the same process on the solid-surface counter tops in the kitchen to remove scratched from utensils and marring from everyday wear & tear.

I also use Sonus QD on the shower door, and clean our glass coffee table using a glass MF pad with alcohol/vinegar/water.

So, a lot of techniques I learned about here have come into the house. Our house is not quite as clean as my car, but it is kept pretty clean and tidy.

Wifey and I have a housecleaning service comwe in every two weeks to give the downstairs level and the 2.5 baths a "detailing".. the rest is just maintenance..with two dogs and two cats, the vacuum gets a regular workout.

I don't mind yard work.. a clean yard is like a clean car.. a source of pride.

I like the challenge of coming up with different patterns each time I mow the lawn.. it also convinces the neighbors that I am a bit "gonzo" LOL ;) :p :D

This combo sounds like the Melaleuca Clear Power window cleaner I use which contains vinegar. I use only when really needed on the car windows, it does just fine as far as I can see

That's a good idea... but I think I'll try that with roundup instead of the mower!

Some of you are truely sick! LOL, can you say OCD? My wife is a mess at home, very disorganized and messy, not totally dirty though. Funny becasue her job requires her to very organized. Between her messes all over and the 2 dogs (53lb Husky and 140lb Malamute) I cant keep the house clean. When she travels I do clean and have a very tidy house for a week or two at a time though.

But as someone else said I got into detailing because of a love of cars, not to curb an OCD disorder. LOL.

Wax the fridge, now that's a goody. I'm thinking of klassing the painted steel handles on the lawnmower and sack truck to prevent surface rust and to give the paint some lustre.

I wax the bathroom sink often and also klasse sg the mirrors.

In the past I have machine buffed the oven door with a lambswool pad and a polish

You know after following this topic I have actually thought about waxing the sinks, showers/shower doors, chrome faucets and the stainless fridge/stove/microwave. I wonder how AIO would do? Does AIO remove soap scum via PC on shower doors?

I've used All-In-One to remove tarnish from Brass bathroom faucet and knobs. Did a bangup job. I've also used All-In-One to clean up a sterling ID bracelet.

Funny, my wife and I are opposites...i am anal about the cars and while her car is deemed the rolling dumpster she is anal about the house....she vacumms every other day and out friends think our house looks like a model home

My wife has started using my Mother's Carnauba on the granite sinks, since I have started using Meg's on the cars. What would work well on a fiberglass jacuzzi tub?

Sounds like a beautiful relationship! ;)

Here's a link to SC Johnson's mail order page. They offer hard to find products that they still offer.

The Jubilee Kitchen wax is still available - albeit as an aerosol. Hre's their description...

JUBILEE® Aerosol Kitchen Wax and Cleaner

Easy-to-use aerosol spray wax cleans and shines appliances and other household surfaces, such as kitchen countertops, bathroom fixtures, ceramic tile, enamel, sealed marble and wood. Great for removing lipstick and fingerprints from hard surfaces. Won't scratch, never dulls and puts down a tough, hard shine that helps protect surfaces and makes spills easier to wipe clean.

00421 JUBILEE® Aerosol - 9 oz.

$5.10 ea./$58.20 per case of 12

Might be an alternative to using AIO or similar in the house and thus keep our significant others out of our detailing stash :~)
