Detailing rig half-and-half detailed... ever seen it?

Ahhhh!!!! You did this all wrong!!! Don't half and half each individual panel - that will look ridiculous. Half and half the entire van as a whole, BUT not just lengthways like you were originally thinking - do it BOTH ways - so it'll be in quarters.

Look at it from the side, pick the half way point (probably slightly behind front doors) and make that your tape mark. On the driver's side, leave the front all 300k miles old and write "before" and polish the back w/ "after". On the pass side, do the opposite - we read left to right, so it's more natural this way. Doing it this way will also mean you are splitting the rear doors and hood too, but that leaves you w/ another "before" and "after" demonstration for people behind or in front (unfortunately, it won't conform to the reading left to right, but it gets the point across). I'd also recommend the hood's "before" and "after" to be reversed lettering so people can read it in their rearview mirror.

If you don't want to go through that, at the very least half it front to back - but not each individual panel!!! Also, I recommend keeping the wheels and tires cleaned along w/ windows and full interior. You're trying to make an interesting advertising campaign - not overdo it or make an environmental statement about fallout, pollution, water conservation, etc.

Awesome idea though. If I ever decide to do a detailing business, you'd better believe I'm stealing this!!! :lol

I've sort of done this on my parents' Saturn. I washed the whole car, clayed half the hood, corrected the paint (M150/M205) on half the hood and double waxed with M16. The difference on the burgundy metallic paint is so amazingly clear, the right is dull and swirled to hell and the left is beautifully wet, glossy and deep. Anyone who notices will get 2 business cards.

I would lay down some cheap vinyl letters on the side that is gonna be polished first, then when your done just pull the vinyl and it will wstill be dirty and you be able to see the words after!

For some reason this thread makes me think of those mid '90's vw's that had each panel done in a different color. That would be an interesting car to detail...
