Detailing of a 91 Porsche Turbo

An old client purchased a used but new to him 1991 Porsche Turbo in one of the most unique colors I have ever seen. It is a factory color from Porsche and it's called "Coral Red".



It is simple a beautiful color and I was excited to get started on it. I was unable to finish it all today so I'll have to go back on Tuesday, weather permitting, and finish it.



It only has 27k miles on it and this very car was featured in a magazine article when it first came out. The interior is a little dingy mainly because it is a very light gray, almost white, color and it shows all the dirt and grime.



After the wash I went around the whole car with my favorite newest product, Menzerna Powergloss:xyxthumbs



It had some slight swirls and scratches as can be seem in these two pictures.

I apologize in advance for the odd picture lighting but I knew I would be unable to finish this car today so I had to care more about time that picture lighting and I wasn't about to chase the sun around.



I promise better picture, in full sun, next week:up

Next in line was a going over the entire exterior paint with 3M's Perfect III. This stuff works great at light swirl/scratch removal but can get a little sticky also.



Here is the same fender after the 3M
 
I just about finished up the rear area and hand applied AIO BUT I think I may hit it once more with the buffer and a finishing pad next week.



There are a few slight scratches left that I believe I can remove with a bit more effort.

Anthony, that sure is a nice color on a great and brutal car! That Menzerna Power Gloss (Fast Cut in Europe) is a great fine cut compound. Do you have the other 2 products, IP and FP? Besides those I also have the Sealing Wax and the Final Polish PO85U, a glaze without silicones and abrasives that works very well.



I'll be expecting the next pics :xyxthumbs
 
Here is the right side fender with all the same steps, ending with AIO applied by hand.



I will post more pictures next week, and include some interior "before N after" pics. I will try to go into more detail about, well....the detail:D

Anthony, last week I finished my new C4S Porsche. The factory and the dealer had the car pretty well marked up with swirls and water spots. I started with Menzerna Power Gloss then followed up with Menzerna Intensive and Final Polish. If you will use those two products after the Power Gloss you find a great improvement. After that I applied AIO by machine and SG by hand. Finally, P21S Paste Wax. This formula seems to work well on the new Porsche paint.

Yes I have the IP and the FP, really love the FP, and while I don't much care to have another wax around I would love to try out the "Final Polish PO85U". Where can that be purchased at? Only in Europe?



Wait until you see this Porsche Coral red out in the sun! It is amazing:cool: In the shade the color can trick your eyes into thinking it is hazed up or cloudy but when the sun hits it it is blinding, even more so now.



I can't wait until I finish it up and get to pull it out in the full sun.

:cool: color! I just had the usual stuff today (Dodge Ram SLT, S500, X5 and an S420), nothing like that Porsche!



I've got some FP PO85U, but it isn't for sale. ;) I guess jvg will have to be my supplier until it is available here. Very nice product, super clear looking shine (the only way I can figure out how to describe the look).



Don't hold your breath on the rain holding off. Looks like it is moving in sometime on Sunday and will be with us through Tuesday. :(

Tell me about it! Even worse is when people say "oh you must love rain, it gets the cars dirty" obviously failing to understand it takes away a day of work in most cases. In addition, I can count on sprinklers, tree sap, dust, bug guts and bird bombs to get cars dirty.
 
Yeah, I have had it with winter:angry Today was just beautiful, light wind, a few clouds and a toasty 70, just perfect:cool:



Tomorrow through Tuesday we have rain and thunderstorms, what gives:confused:



Now is when I wish I had a fixed location so while it is stormin outside I am inside nice and dry detailing the day away:bounce



Maybe Santa will bring me a detail shop next year......I better get a real big stocking first:D

Definitely agree with that. I just got my powergloss in the mail and it's amazing. Basically every swirl has now been removed (something multiple passess with DACP couldn't do) and following up with IP and FP just makes the car look killer. I'll have pics up sometime soon. Awesome car and color on that Porsche by the way. A part of me still wishes my dad's was a darker color...but classic porsche silver still looks beautiful.

About Menzerna stuff and Europe only products, does anyone know if CMA is ready to ship their new line of Menzerna stuff? The site said march 04 somewhere, but I can't wait to try out their new glaze and sealant, which are apparently not the same as the ones currently on sale in Europe.

I for one am confused about the whole Menzerna deal. I have tried to directly contact Menzerna but have as of yet I have gotten no replies from them

I would like to know where I can order directly, instead of going through a middle man, and also get a price list for all thier products pertaining to the automotive industry. Nothing against CMA but if you can buy direct, why not?



I am also confused about the whole "We sell this in Europe buut not in the USA" What gives there?



Ahh, no one knows the pains that a detailer must endure:rolleyes:

I was wondering how aggressive you think the PG is? In those pics *at least to me* I could not see very many swirls. Would you hesitate to use PG often on a car? Also, what pad did you use?



If I used PG with a PC on my car with "normal, 5 year old car swirls", would you recommend starting with a white polish pad vs. a yellow cut pad?
