Detailing goals for 2012

So what are your goals for next year?

  • Apply LSPs via machine (I always *THINK* its going to be faster to not drag out the machine, it isn't)
  • Pay more attention to trim
  • Pay more attention to wheels and wheel wells

Been doing all 3 of your goals for a few years, except have never applied carnauba via the PC.

My goals for early next year:

1. buy some opti-coat

2. buy/try some high end (i.e. expensive) MF

3. maybe just maybe try 1 carnauba wax irregardless of price. haven't used wax in over 5 years. want to compare it against my sealants.

Maybe give the S8 a burnishing with PO85rd, maybe switch it over to FK1000P.

If I get the Jag out of mothballs I'll have a bit of a project there....

SuperBee364- Heh heh heh....nah...my OptiCoat is staying in its syringe, at least where the S8 is concerned ;) In *my particular case* it's an solution in search of a problem. Honestly can't think of what I'm ever gonna use it on, though it would probably be OK on some more of my wheels (currently have it on the Tahoe's summer wheels).

I think I'm gonna have to fly out there and OC one of your cars while you're asleep. ;)

That's exactly the way I was thinking. I went ahead and did it anyway. Now I'm thinking about doing the other VW. The fact that nothing sticks to it makes it unlike any other product. Tar specs literally wash off with a regular wash mitt.

Nice topic!

1) Keep my paint in good condition.

2) Pay more attention to the interior.

3) Try some wet sanding.

4) Do not overspend :).

I've been doing these for awhile now. My goals for 2012 would be the following

Increase my business (would like to double it)

Network more - going to spend at least one day a week networking

Plus a number of other things...I'm revamping my business plan for 2012 and setting some pretty steep goals for myself.

So much is in store for 2012....on the detailing side.

1. Work on networking/marketing. Now that the website is live, work van is getting close and we have pretty much everything we need: it's time to see some return.

2. Look at hiring 1-2 people part-time and give Groupon a try to see if we can make money while we are at our regular jobs.

3. Do 3x the amount of correction jobs as we did this year.

4. I guess all of my goals equal one overall goal = make money for myself.

-Kody-

-No more orders from anyone, unless it's mandatory to my operation

-Get some business cards created so I can expand my business beyond friends and family

-Explain paint correction to my mom and dad, they still don't understand even though I have shown them countless times

-Save up for big purchases (Steamer or Extractor)

-Finally read one of TOGWT's long articles from start to finish, maybe re-read K. Browns articles

-Make a detailing binder with all the hints* I learn over the internet

By the end of 2012 I want to have my hand in PDR

didnt quite hit my number goals with detailing to open up a shop, but here is what I will most definitely do in 2012:

-hire someone to help out from time to time on interiors, wheels, wheel wells, claying

-expand and promote my new wholesaling business which caters towards car accessories (enviousericssupply - just launched the website)

-finally hire someone to operate the express/volume business doing all the stuff I dont like doing...wash and wax jobs, shampooing interiors, etc. I focus on paint correction, not soccer vans, but that is turning down business and that is no good!

-enjoy life more while still detailing as much as possible. i took too much away from my social life this year, hardly took time for myself

I'm waiting for somebody to post that their goal is to do less detailing and more other stuff. Sorry, couldn't resist.

On second thought, having just given it a good cleanup and another coat of UPP, I'm not gonna redo that car in any big way next year after all :grinno: As Brad B. found when doing his S4, it's stayed nice enough to just keep reLSPing.

Heh heh, oh no.... you'd kill that oh-so-fragile ss metallic...you wouldn't/couldn't resist trying to get it better than I can!

But seriously, yeah, if you were local to me we'd do it together and I'd gladly pay you to Vintage it, say...six coats or so. Heh heh, I wouldn't mind having you do the interior either, that's the part that'll really be a chore.

Ya know, I debated that one yesterday when UPPing the S8. I really *do* think it went faster by hand, what with having to get out the polisher and extension cord and then put 'em away afterwards.

But I do still prefer doing it by machine, including buffing off with MF bonnets, just didn't want to hassle around compared to grabbing the applicator and MFs and getting on with it.
