Detailing for a cause

Hello everyone

I saw a post not long ago about a DC member who auctioned off a detail and then bought presents for needy kids with the profit. I would say that kinda touched me and got me thinking.

Its probably to late to organize any christmas thing but there is a teacher at my school who has been out for 6 months with cystic fibrosis and has no vacation days left. He and his family are havnig a hard time getting by now. The faculty had a breakfast to make money. I dont knwo how much money you could really make doing that though.

What i want to do is perhaps Drop a note in the teachers mail saying that i will be doing 2 full details and that money will be going to the teacher.

What do you think of this idea? Any better way of doing it?

Greg

Greg,

I think that's a great idea. I've done the same thing in the past. The world's are much better place with people like you, who want to give something to the people who need it the most. God bless you and have a great holiday !!

Greg, Sounds like a good thing. Today I was reading my local newspaper and something like 3000 families in my area will be without Christmas due to unemployment and various other economical factors it touched my heart. Now i know its to late to do anything this year with just a week to go before christmas but next year god willing I'll be able to set aside 5 or 10 dollars from each detail and donate to salvation Army or some other worthy charity to help those in need.

Firstly I just want to say that it is great of you to care and want to help out as much as you can. For ideas you can always charge the teachers and many local businesses (make flyers or just go ask) a very discounted rate to do a wash/wax and interior package. Just cover the basics and use a one (occasionally two if needed) step product. Get a bunch of friends to lend a hand and spread the word. With some luck you can probably get 10-20 people to contribute this week (at 50 per that is 500-1000) to present to the family as a donation for the holidays.

maybe to like a silent auction......when u write them on what ur doin say its an silent auction and send in ur bid to u and the 2 or 3 highest get the detail.

I've thought about this in the past as well. Then I decided I was going to detail a van for a gentleman who is bound to a wheelchair. The day I was going to drop by and tell him my intentions I read a local newspaper. Here is what I read: A few guys from a moving company decided to move a family with their moving van just to be nice and help out a poor family. Turns out other movers in the area found out about this and took the movers that did the good deed to court. The good guys lost because aparently you can't offer free services! I guess the other companies are afraid that they'll be but out of business. Maybe I'm missing something here and someone can clear it up for me but this is a bunch of crap. I mean, if I'm willing to provide my time, services, products and shop to help someone out I should be able to do so!

vdubbya,
Where is it you live where anyone can tell you how to run your business. (In this case give away a service for free)
As long as you are not violating any laws

Greg: That is a really nice thing that you want to do, your parents shuld be proud

Happy holidays

jaybs95, I live in MN and surprised that "pappy" never heard of the ordeal. I'll still do it when time allows. I believe I read it in the Star Tribune and recall it on the news aswell. I know that the company involved was fairly new to the business and I could easily say it was a more than likely a push to scare them out of the business.

Thats a great idea!

as an added suggestion perhaps you can get a few friends to help you out (put them on interior/wheel duty while you do the paint work. You might be able to offer a few more spots and get the family some added cash!

HEllo

Thanks for all the great posts

It is really nice that i have all this support from you guys.

I want to get this thing going over my christmas break... I will have to talk to "pappy" about helpin me.. he is my neighbor as well as my best friend.

Are there any more Minnesotans in southwest MN that would be interested in piching in?

Greg

P.S. MY car got iced and snowed on today :wall

Greg,

I was thinking about what you are doing this morning on my drive into work and came up with an idea!

On e-bay you can have a private auction. You can do it that way ...thats one of the Ideas.

Second what you can do is have a web page of your own (if you don't have any webspace i would be more than happy to give you a sub-domain off of one of mine) and on that web page you can have a place where you can have an aplet that people can enter their e-mail address and their bid and the highest bid always replaces the current amount being displayed (like an auction) only you can have a physical address instead of like e-bay that you only know the auction number when you auction it off.
