Detailing discussion in the chat room?

The chat room seems to have gained some use through the scheduled chat nights and that's great. :bigups

Just a thought.
Would it be practical to schedule chat nights to discuss detailing processes and procedures?

Like these:
1. Polishing with a random orbital machine.

2. Polishing with a rotary buffer.

3. Polishing by hand.

4. Carpet care tips and tricks.

5. Leather and/or vinyl care.

6. Tire and wheel well cleaning and dressing.

7. Window cleaning.

The list could go on, but I think that's enough to convey the general idea.
A subject could be planned for discussion on a specific night and hopefully a few would participate.

:dunno:

What would be nice is if we could have a sort of 'chat moderator' for special chats like that. Someone who can direct the discussion and perhaps organize the transcript after the chat and post it in a chat forum. The 'chat moderator' wouldn't necessarily even have to be an expert in the topic, although a working knowledge should be required. This would help keep the discussion going and the chat moderator would be responsible for keeping the chat on track. In fact, if it could be arranged in advance then it might even be possible to have members with specific knowledge of process and products in attendance and it would be a very valuable chat. Definitely the kind of thing that would set the Detail City chat above any others. Random chat nights are still fine, but to have a focused detailing discussion chat would be a great thing.

To me, the idea seemed to have some potential, but since the thread has had close to 40 views and only one response, it looks like it would just be you and me.
We can do that via PMs. :)

We can have theme night but the discussion is all over the place.

It seems hard to have more than one discussion going on so I think after maybe 10 people it becomes unmanageable.

:bigups I think that's a good suggestion, Charles . . . just don't mess with Steve's Wednesday night  :rofl

You volunteering, jngr? :notme:

I'd like to see this go into effect also. But we also need more chat room activity.
. . . where were you last night :inspector: . . .the room was a'rockin' till the wee small hours!! :passout: :thanks guys!! :D **

** And remember, what happens in chat, stays in chat ;)

we could always try it out and see what happens.
I think it would be best to start with one night and a specific topic and rotate it weekly.
You can always add more nights if it works well.

This sounds like the way to go. Thanks for the suggestion Charles.:bigups

I'm not ready to start it just yet but I wouldn't mind hearing suggestions for topics right now.

I like the chat forum idea logging the discussion for reference Anthony.:bigups

Topics for discussion could be something like intro the PC, intro to polishes, how to use LSP's, how to properly wash, so on and so forth.

IMO, One topic at a time should be addressed.
Weekly would be plenty and possibly too often.
It isn't always easy for people to have the time to participate. Some time to plan for it could be handy.

I really wish I did have the bandwidth to participate more in this kind of thing, but I keep myself pretty tapped out for time. Three kids, school, work, detailing, design, house stuff... Yeah, the day I have a couple hours to spend online in a chatroom will be the day. I really do miss the days when I had that kind of time, but this stage of my life certianly isn't that time. I'm more than happy to help plan them and do whatever else I can do to make it successful though. I may not necessarily be able to attend the chat, but whatever is needed to set it up and follow up afterwards is probably where I would be the most reliable. :bigups

I go in the chatroom a good bit and never see anybody:(. Am I in the wrong room or something?

Bradford, most of the time we have kind of set up wednesday evening as a set chat night. The chat room is always open but others arent in there. Just check out the chat room list to see if anyone is in there.
