Detailing Antique Fire Engine

That truck is an absolutely beautiful piece of Americana. The paint is in good enough shape that with the right care, it could be beautifully restored and preserved. I would think that your town would be able to come up with the coin to get a restoration experienced detailer in there to restore and LSP that paint. Yes, the gold flake would have to go, but it could be redone after the paint is restored.

IMO, it isn't worth the risk of damaging (or adding additional damage to the previous amateur detailing job) that paint by just having at it and seeing what happens. Either get someone to do it right or leave it until the time it can be done right.

As the other guys have said, it would take many, many hours to really do it justice. If you don't have the time/experience to do it, maybe leave it til it can be done right?

Not trying to be harsh here, just concerned about such a beautiful piece of the past.

I'm certainly no expert by any means, but if that truck was local to me, I'd gladly donate my time to help in it's care.

I know this sounds stupid but maybe try a small spot with kerosene. Kerosene used to be a trick used on single stage paint to bring it back to life. I believe that the kerosene will clean and then soak into the paint giving it gloss.

Jawdropping, man... just beautiful. Top quality restoration.

I'd bet that fire truck would look just as good with some TLC.

theres no better before after than oxidized red, aio would probably remove alot of that, i would at least give it a whirl to clean it up, you can always have it restored afterwards.
