Detailing a Lotus Elise???

From what I hear the paint glows in the dark,so would u need to use special products, or just detail it like any other car.. I would assume u could :nervous2:
 
The paint does not glow in the dark on a stock Lotus, unless they have some custom paint job?
 
As with any automobile, you should begin with some research. Do some investigation with regard to the paint they use, the paint the owner may have re-sprayed with, and a myriad of other topics with regards to the rest of the materials used to fabricate the vehicle. Then, if you still have questions, call a Lotus dealer and search some Lotus boards form more information. When you're all done, you'll have more confidence for what you are prepping for and you can come back to us with a host of knowledge when someone asks about or Lotus (or keep it to yourself). But this is the process I do for every automobile I service so that I know what I am getting into and that I will be performing the absolute best service possible. My friends who’ve worked on them say the paint’s nothing unusual. But be prepared to do a lot of masking if you plan on power buffing. They have lots of strange nooks and crannies that you don’t want to have to clean out later.



Be extra cautious if you need to do heavy correction with a rotary. As with any plastic substrate, the Elise’s panels won’t dissipate heat like metal and may burn quickly. And you can’t gauge the paint’s depth with normal thickness gauges.

A generous application of Turtle wax Red Rubbing Compound followed up by Zymol Atlantique.

More seriously its a car, just wash it, clay it, apply pre-wax cleaner, cleaner wax, and then top with pure wax. Do it by hand so as not to risk damaging the paint.
