Detailer Stuffed My Car's Paint

I took my car to a supposedly reputable car detailer who had gave me a quote of $250AUD to get all little dings out, touch up any spots using matched paint, repair a couple minor rust spots at the front windscreen and give the car a full polish. He told me if it will cost anymore he will call me.

I get a call that my cars finished and ready to be picked up, tells me the dent repairer charged $220 for the ding removal and his charge was $100 for the polishing total $320. I thought ok extra $70 isn't too bad but he should have called me.

Anyway i go to pick my car up, the main dent i wanted removed wasn't removed, the rear bumper has burn marks from buffing and no touch up has been done from what i can see.

I asked him whats the deal with the rear bumper burns and his reply is the buffing brought up what was underneath the paint. The bumper had NO crazing which is now evident on the rear right side and i told him this.

He then tells me he spent 6hrs buffing the whole car which would have cost way more then he charged me, the thing is the paint wasn't it that bad condition before hand, just had a few light scratches. Also no touch up work was evident.

I am very upset on this dodgeness but don't know what i should do as i have paid the man already. Where do i stand and what should i do?

Thankyou

would the better business bureua be a place to visit? I would let the man know that you are very unsatisfied with his work and see if he will refund you some money. I think if you convince him that you will tell customers to not go there then maybe he will work with you. It sounds like he was just trying to cover his ass with the buffer burn marks.

That kind of shoddy work could warrant legal action. I'm not sure how the consumer laws are set up where you are, but if he screwed up the paint, which he did (a lot from your description) he should be liable to have the damage repaired. If he was a reputable professional detailer he should hold insurance for just such a thing and he should pay to have your car repaired. My advice would be to find a lawyer and discuss your options, make the detailer aware that you are doing this so that he will have an oportunity to rectify the situation out of court.

Well, i tell people to take work like that and pound it up you know what, i take my keys give them the bird and tell them to sue me.

If they mess with me, i have no problems choke slamming them on their head.
