Detailed Mom's 2004 RL-It's Black-***PICS***

91LSMAN

2002 Chevrolet Corvette
Well, my crazy parents got a black RL. You know what that means-time to polish. :bigups The previous owner only had it for 8 months, but I'm pretty sure they had it washed at the dealer every freakin time. The paint was not in bad condition, but there were swirls and marrring all over. I polished like a madman. Underneath my 250w work light and my 500w work light there are still defects visable in the paint-Is any cars finish ever perfect under lighting like that? Anyhooo, the first few pics are in bad lighting, It's very cloudy this morning. The last two pics are right before mom left for work-then sun had just started to come out and as she left I ran outside with my camera and stopped her. LOL Anyway here was my process

Wash
Clay
SSR2.5/SSR1
EX
Natty's
Spray and Gloss (lightly-just to remove dust)
BnB on tires/wheel wells

Natural Look on the interrior (not pictured)

Right before she left as the sun was coming out...

I just hope it looks good in direct sunlight-I tend to be very nit-picky of my own work

Looks like a pool of black paint.

Very nice work :).

Any rims planned for this one?

Thanks!!

Dad wants to eventually put some aftermarket chrome on this one. Don't know what size or anything like that though-we would want to keep it nice and smooth for mom. We might tint the windows too, but we have to do some research because certain tints can screw up the GPS.

Great job.

Have you noticed the Honda/Acura Black seems to scratch easily ?
Thats how it seems IMO anyhow. Breath on it and it scratchs'.

Did the SSR2.5/SSR1 level get the job done easily for you ? Did that part of the process take long?

I think some chrome wheels would look like with the black.

Check out the rims from the Legend coupe that was posted a few weeks back on the Pooroboys section of this forum. He was testing the Spray and Gloss.
Those rims would look sweet on the black car.

Nice shine! I agree that work lights (florecent in general can make your detailing a pain) show the finest of swirl marks, ect. I just pull my car out of the garage into the sunlight between steps. Just to make sure I don' t go crazy trying to get rid of something that I am not capable of removing. Although I can be quite a perfectionist like yourself.

Thanks-IMO all Honda and Acura paint scratches/swirls easily-you can just see it more on black. The hood was the most difficut to get it how I wanted. You guys are not going to believe how many passes I took at that hood: SSR1, SSR1, SSR2.5, SSR1.

FYI: The guy with that really cool Legend that tested S&G is ME

Glad I'm not the only one.

Thanks everyone!!!

Didn't your folks have the white Acura on the garage in those other pics ?
I was thinking that was newer than than your new black Legend posted here.
my bad for missing that.

I think a black car looks like a million bucks when its clean and waxed.

You do excellent work.

So you think you can talk your father into trading the Vette off on a NSX ????

I thought it was just me who thought the honda paint was really soft or easy to scratch.
Looks like I'm off to order some SSR 2.5 for my Honda
SSR1 probably won 't get it done.

Thank for the update

that last pic is spectacular. your pictures confirm my belief that there isnt a better color than black.

Yes, my parents had a white 98 RL SE, that was traded in for this black RL. I don't know if I get exactly what you mean-the Legend is a 91-bottom line is my parents and I have really clean cars. LOL

Thanks for the comments everyone-the next post will be pics I took in the sunlight this afternoon.

Very nice and mom looked like she had a big smile on her face:D
