This was the second in order to be detailed. He bought this one in late 04 and only has 10k on the clicker. This is his daily driver also. I was in extremely nice shape so there are no before shots. I was afraid also that I was gonna run out of daylight and one more to do. This got a light polish and wax. The interior's leather also got cleaned and treated. The engine bay recieved some attention also.

He saw me wiping down the inside of the wheel wells and said "What the heck are you a doing boy?!?!" I just laughed and then he saw them. He said that hooked him and wants this one done everyweek!

Here's what it got....

Optimum's New Formula Polish

(EDGE2K Green Light Cutting Pad at a #5 PC setting)

I wanted to see what kind of cut this stuff had by itself. It really does more than just polish. I removed some fine swirls and hazing along with some light oxidation. I did notice how it really brightened up the red. There was no hint of dust and there were tons of work time. Came off so easy....most cases just one swipe of an MF towel took it off!

Pinnacle's Liquid Souveran (X2)

(EDGE2K White Finishing Pad at a #3 PC setting)

Remembering what this did on a red Supra this summer, I decided on this for my LSP. Boy was I and the customer happy with it! The gloss and depth doubled after just one coat so why not another? WOW! All the customer said and walked back into the house shaking his head!

Enough cannot be said about EDGE's white pad. It holds the wax right on the outter layer of the pad making for less product use. It's well balanced and flows smooth over the paint. The first coat went on in less than 10 minutes. Effortlessly!

Your work is always amazing and your write ups are some of the best. I really appreciate the process you list, especially the time spent and the price you charge.

With these last 4 details you just posted up, I noticed that you always wipe down the interior with APC, but do you dress the vinyl interior surfaces also?

I've also noticed that many of your full details includes engine detailing. What is your process for this? Just wiping it down with Super Degreaser? Super-D and hosed? Or Super-D and power-washed? Has there ever been a time when you detailed/washed a customer's engine bay, which resulted in engine problems? Do you have insurance to protect you against this?

I don't mean to be nosy, but after owning my car for 5 years I finally decided to wash the engine bay some months back. The car started both times after I cleaned it, but the next morning my engine started acting up. The car was rough and my RPMs were sporatic. The OBDII code came back as cyl 4 misfire. A couple of days later the problem went away completely and hasn't returned, but ever since then my engine doesn't sound the same. It feels fine, but the sound coming from it as the RPMs increase is just very loud and annoying. It sounds sort of like the whine of an electric RC car. So I've been scared to do anything in the engine bay since then.

Your problem sounds like a water in the spark plugs and was fouling it out. The water dried out and it went away. I have never had a problem to date while or after detailing an engine. I do have 1 million dollars worth of liability insurance (costs me 3000 per year).

I use a low pressure, electric pressure washer. Why? A pressure washer uses about 60% air vs. a hose using 100% water. A hose will drench the motor and leave water standing.

Here's my engine detailing process:

1. If the engine is not warm, crank the vehicle for a few minutes. This is so any of the caked on grease and oil will become warm and loose.

2. Turn the engine off and wet the entire car. This makes for the easy removal of any degreaser/grime overspray.

3. Open hood and degrease the engine bay. Let sit for about 1 minute. I take an old Meguiars Versa Wheel brush and hit the high spots as well as the painted surfaces under the hood and along the inside fenders.

4. I pressure wash the engine. I only use a 1750 psi washer and it's all one needs. I let the chemicals to the work and just blast them away.

5. While wet, I take Armor All Tire Foam and soak the bay down. I don't care it gets on the engine bays painted areas. This is another reason to wet the entire car down. Shut hood.

6. I now crank the vehicle and let run for about 15 minutes or until normal running temps come up fully. Turn off vehicle.

7. This is what I call the the baking process. All the water evaporates leaving the AA behind. I now detail the entire vehicle while the engine cures. About 3-4 hours later open the hood.

8. I now take an MF mitt and Armor All spray. I wet my mitt with it and proceed to wiped down and smooth out the coat plastics in the bay. You can use this mitt now for your wheel wells final wipe down as well.

Hope this helps. You may want to take plastic grocery bags and tape over the engines electronics if you wish.

Wow. Avalanches have some pretty bad plastics. That's nice. Great details! I'm surprised how well the OPS/OP mix worked on that Caddy, and being a former owner of a Daimler Double Six, I love the Jag!

this is a major key in pouring water in the engine, gotta cover the air intakes and eletrical areas

Man, the new Avalanche just blows the old ones clean out of the water. All that trim...what was GM thinking?
