Detail tomorrow (temp=35F)

My friend's cousin asked me to detail (exterior only) her 98 gold Infiniti I30 tomorrow. Apparently she had some varnish or varnish cleaner drip on her car from the garage ceiling or roof. :nixweiss



So she's got this sticky crap on her trunk. It's transparent but you can see that there is more dirt there than in other areas. I asked her if she tried washing it off but she said no because she didn't want to scratch the paint. She said it's been on there for about a month!



So what can I use to get this off? Isopropyl Alcohol? Bug/tar remover? AIO?



I plan to wash, clay, PI III MG, AIO, UPP.



I told her $120 for the outside only. Even though I'll vac it and wash the windows anyway, just because I'm nice...and it's the little things like those that make people happy.



We'll see if I have adequate lighting when I finish...this may be a candidate for the extreme detail contest. :) The car is in pretty rough shape...and the wheels > :eek:
 
Stoner's Tarminator would probably work.



I hear ya' on the temperatures. It was 34 when I started this morning with 10-15 mph winds. Going to be 24 tomorrow morning. It probably won't get past the freezing mark until 9:30-10:00AM. :(
 
You got to be in a garage. I did a car last Saturday and it was 34o in the garage. Wind is a problem. If it's 32o and 15mph winds is 22o. That's not good for any liquid. It probably won't bond good to a below freezing metal. I had problems with SG and the roof. It was baked on the roof. It took for ever to rub off.

Are you going to use a PC or another buffer? What the hell is PI III MG?

The clay should get it off. plus if your using a paint cleaner or polish. AIO has taken of nasty stuff for me also, but normally the stuff I use before gets it.

Wind chills only apply to living things that generate heat internally. It does not apply to a metal car. The wind has NO temperature effect on non-living surfaces.





I'll be using the PC for the MG and AIO. UPP by hand.

I will be washing/drying outside, and the rest in the garage.

The most important temperature is the actual surface temperature of the vehicle. The other things that will have a direct bearing on this is the humidity as this will effect the cross-linking (cure) time, excess humidity will also affect â€Ëœhowâ€â„¢ a wax or sealant dries (i.e. it may cause hazing or clouding of the surface) a minimum vehicle surface temperature of 50oF(recommended as a minimum by most manufacturers)

Well it all went pretty well. I got the usual enthusiastic "wow! That's incredible!" when the owner felt the paint (UPP) :) . I got a $20 tip as well, so I ended up with $140 for the job.



The wheels were absolutely disgusting. The P21S liquid wheel cleaner came through for me though. I'll post pics a bit later when I download them from my camera.

I hate those Infiniti wheels...but not as much as the BBS style they had on the J30s!



Those sure are fun to clean, eh?
 
Yeah I had a blast cleaning all 25 spokes 4 times over.



Hey Scott I want to post more pics but I'm trying to block out the license plates cuz I never post any customer cars' plates on the net. So I went into XAT Image Optimizer and drew a crop box around the plate and clicked on "clear crop". That's what I did last time and it worked...but it doesn't do anything when I click it now. Do you know what's wrong?

I was just going to say never mind...I used Paint instead. Pics are on the way.



Unfortunately it was too dark to get decent pictures of the car after UPP. I got some pics after the 3M MG and AIO, but even though I took more after UPP, they didn't turn out well. I was hoping to enter the contest with this car, but without good after pics, it would probably be useless.
 
Sweet job man! For a second I seriously thought the rims were powdercoated or painted black but then I looked for alittle longer and realized it was just baked on brake dust and grime! The tires look awesome as well, perfect combo between wet looking and a satin finish.



As far as the weather, your not alone dude, today it was 33 and about 10mph winds. It's like you almost need a shop to detail properly,,,,,,AR
 
BTW, the spots on the trunk came right off with the NXT wash.



My hands are so dry and cracked...I'm not detailing anymore until March (maybe longer) :(

And wouldn't you know it, my friend's uncle wants his car done now!
