Detail Shop Computer Program... if you want one read here

Hey Guys,

To Answer a few questions: The Program is going to be developed in Visual Basic, as the class I am Taking is a Visual Basic Class there really is no choice.

The Program is going to be Free unless I take extra time after school ends to develop the program much further than I did during school.

I will try to fit as many of your requests into the program but obviously I have time restraints and not everything will be in what i am going to submit for the class and there probably will be bugs to start. I am 1 person developing this and I am a BIT major I used to be CS.

Printing Can be taken care of easily, In the coming week I should have time to sit down and outline what I am hoping the program will do from the outset and let you guys critique me.

I welcome all comments and I am happy to see that you guys are excited too.

Thanks

Bryan

man i wish i knew what you all are talking about, computer speak that is. Oh well at least i know how to clean cars.

Thanks Bryan for all your time and effort. It seems like you're developing a good foundation for a much needed tool for the good of many. Please keep us all posted.

Looks good so far. Nice colors and layout.

Thanks...

There will be redundant ways to do everything, when you are in the scheduling screen and the client screen as well as all the other ones with a task panel when you click on any client or reservation the information will be shown on the right if you didnt catch that.

The color and layout seems good.

My suggestion:

1) Sometimes customers have more than 1 car, make sure that for each car, you can write separate comments for them.

2) If possible, add the features of inserting pictures for each car records. So if a customer calls to set up and appointment, you pull up his file, you will be able to see the customer's car pictures.

If you look at a few of the screens like the client management screen and the add/edit client screen there is a listbox that will hold multiple cars for each customer with the add edit delete below it. This will allow each customer to have multiple cars(plus the backend work)

For the pictures, I actually did plan on including the pictures but I just forgot to put it on that layout because I had to have a draft in today to my teacher but don't worry it will be there.

Let's not try to get into, add this, need that yet. He was just looking for some feedback as to the general feel of the screens not the info they present. Let's hold those thoughts until he gets further along in his development as inputting them now can really slow down development.

If you want to know more about what things he plans to put in the database perhaps he could work up a text model like those here.... http://www.databaseanswers.org/data_models/index.htm and, 2k2blackWRX, by seeing these you might get some good ideas and I've found that it helps in my database development to create a text model.

Sounds like it will be pretty close to this one. www.insightdirect.com

Wont be THAT impressive... im limited by time, experience and im just one person.

As it is now it probably wont be submitted as a final project with all the features requested because thats just a load on me on top of all of the other thing I have to do. I spoke with my prof and im gonna keep it limited to scheduling customers, a customer database and inventory management.

Once summer comes I could have more time to work on it if demand was there.

I really WANT to put all of the features possible into it but im sure you all realize that its tough for a college kid to do it all

:)

Hey rob One question..And i hope you thought about this I know you can have office ported to a Palm. do you think you can do the same with this That would kick a$$

I'm no pro detailer, but I do them on the side.

All I'd want is a customer check in, with a range of car side/front/bad views that I could use to inspect damage and then mark down on it.

A small price guide would also be benificial.

Thanks

An individual order sheet would be nice for the customer to see and possibly sign before work has begun on the car so you and customer are in full agreement of what is going to be done to the car.

Hey guys, Sorry I have been slaving over this the last weekend because ive simply been pounded with work these last few weeks.

19 Credits is really catching up with me, when I get finished with what I have ill show you guys then after my finals whhen I go home (next week) I could start to work a little more.
