Detail Owners

You can't compare hobbyist products like poorboys, wolfgang to automagic, its like comparing apples to oranges.

I think some people are taking this the wrong way due to the bad reps i'm getting from it. I'm not saying poorboys, wolfgang, etc are inferior products. I've said many times that they make awesome products. I've actually bought a few things from the sponsers to use on my personal trucks.

This part of the post is simply a statement, my own opinion. You can't compare the two as they are aimed at different markets.

Here's a story for you....

Today our AM rep calls and says he needs a favor, he has a customer who needs to swing by and pick up some product (BC2.) I ask him who the customer is, where he is comming from because I'm not going to help any of my direct competitors out. He proceeds to tell me I'm not really sure where there comming from (thinking there mobile.) And who shows up? Our biggest competitor, 1/4 mile away, the only other shop in town. How could he do that to me?

I proceeded to call him and ask him for a bottle of #83, and #80 (meg's products) And he goes why would I do that? I say WHY WOULD I DO THAT, HELP OUT MY COMPETITOR you @$$hole.

No more AM at my work, finally!

And whats the big deal? I mean its not like he was coming over to get one of your customers cars? He had his own customer i'm sure, he ran out of bc-2 and needed some asap. you were the closest shop. Its a favor between shops. I guess its just me but i would have had no problem with it.

And your going to stop using AM because your rep was tring to help out one of his other customers?

I don't own this shop, I am just a dedicated employee. The problem is this is one of our direct competitors, and he lied to me...and his products are not what we think our target market customer wants. This is just one incidents of many in their track record with our shop and I'm sure AM is a great company, just not for us right now. We will be switching back to Meguiars soon. I also want to add that I believe that you should use whatever product works for you, if AM works for you, use it. This is my opinion.

Being a high end detail shop AM Products do work well for certain applications. Are they the best products you can use? Probably not. But will they get the job done right. Yes Do you have to use the products with fillers? NO. Do they make products with out fillers? Probably. All I am saying is they have a good product that works well Do we use it on every car in some way yes. But your final products do not have to be something from AM.
My Process comsist of many different products. Malco, AM, Megs, Wolfgang. As I do alot of wetsanding in my shop this works best for me.. So I truly believe you have to figure a process out that works for you. And with 13 years in the business things change regularly. Don't be afraid to try new things some things do work better than others...
