Design defect with CMA CCS 6.5" pads?

That's nice, but a product redesign would be even nicer. Or the ability to get a cash refund/store credit instead of exchange; I don't want to send in crappy pads just to get more crappy pads back.

EXACTLY... I'm not going to UPS after every detail to send in another batch of pads for replacement... they need to go wash all their new pads so the backing comes off haha, the reglue them with something better... Like mentioned above, I love the design and I like using the pads a lot, but lately they have really screwed us over with the backing adhesive :furious:

I have had the same issue as many of you with the CCS pads. I was using Klasse on my sisters SUV and by the 3rd panel the velco backing was about 75% delaminated. I never even had the chance to wash the pad. I sent CMA an email about my experience and they quickly shipped me a replacement free of chage along with return shipping lables. I guess the lesson learned is that CMA has great customer service but we should stear clear of these pads until they are redesigned.

I sent my pads back and they promptly refunded my money. Of course, I had to pay return shipping but since I used USPS priority mail, it was only a couple bucks. Nevertheless, a couple bucks to ship them to me and a couple to ship them back = irratated consumer.

If I was just a casual weekend detailer, then I would send them back. I detail full-time--I DON"T HAVE TIME to send defective products back. Sure, it would be nice if they would just send me new pads (especially since they are aware of the issue now), but I will just purchase me pads elsewhere.

This is clearly a defect in pad design.

This must just be a design the CMA had sent to LC...as I have other CCS pads and not a lick of problems....I bet if you asked Terry you would get a store credit...

also ship them back Postal much cheaper..cost a dollar first class mail..

Good point. I emailed Phil back about and he said:

Richard,

That isn't a problem. If there is something you would like to exchange

the pads for, put a list together and include it in the package with the

defective pads. We'll apply the amount of the pads to those items

rather than replacing the defective pads.

Problem solved.

Thanks for the heads up, that's how I'll be sending mine back.

I lifted a CMA CCS pad off the paint and the backing started to seperate. I simply reglued it with Seal ALL. I do think that the thicker velcro would be a good improvment.

Wow, now that's great customer service. Way to go, CMA. :)

idk if you meant it sarcastically or not haha, but their customer service is indeed great... their backing on the pads though :bat

No sarcasm intended at all.. they proved yet again why so many people love to shop there.

Terry of CMA has great Customer support...they have no problem with correcting an issue...I would bet you will see a new pad design or a better type adhesive used....Every product thats comes to market may have a flaw or two till it is worked out....and Terry and the crew at CMA have always tried to correct any bad issues..

The problem here is that it isn't a new product... they have done the same backing and backing foam on top of the actual pad foam for a long time now, and there were no issues, for me at least, until I received the CCS pads... I'm sure they'll correct it eventually, but I don't see them taking apart 1000s of pads they have and re-gluing.. DAP contact cement worked great for me so I don't really care for now, but I do hope they resolve it in the future because I do like those pads a lot.

Cool... I have a couple pads seperating, I'll give that a shot.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it or not, but I"ve been using Snappy Pad cleaner. You guys that are having glue seperation problems, what pad cleaner were you using when your pads started to seperate?

Me too, but that's not the problem... I use Snappy with my older pads (some up to 1 year old) from CMA and they hold up fine after multiple washes... I think the newer batch of pads they put together simply got a bad adhesive...

I think the exact name for what I used is DAP Westwood Contact Cement... here's a pic...

Just make sure you use enough and not too much... coat both the backing and the foam, let it sit for a few mins, then put together... I did about 6 pads at the same time, put a board of wood over them and threw stuff on top.. paint buckets, propane tank, etc... haha it worked... GL

Did anyone else notice that it's only the CCS pads that have the horrible adhesive on the back??

I ordered some orange 6.5" contoured pads from CMA that were on closeout (6 for $40 or something like that IIRC) and those are holding up well... the 2 CCS white pads I ordered along with the orange pads, soaked for 15 mins, had some of the backing peel off, then the rest you can just pull lightly and it will come off... the 2 they sent me as replacements, didn't need my help in separating completely... pad on one side of the bucket, backing on the other

Anyway, just thought I'd ask if anyone else noticed it's only the CCS pads that have bad backing... ?

Long before I ever found Autopia, I got all of my products and information from CMA. They've been having this issue with the adhesive for a very long time yet they keep selling the defective pads. I wouldn't be so quick to praise their customer service because if they really wanted happy customers then they would never have sold you the defective pad to begin with!
