Dell PC tune up.

PA DETAILER

DETAILED TODAY?
It was time! 8 years old. Windows 7. All done yesterday on line with microsoft. 1- year of tune ups etc. $249. Running great now! Sure it's OLD, but they even mentioned you got a really good dell.

I would have bought a new Dell with Windows 10 which is out or due out shortly.

Global release date of WIN 10 is July 29, 2015.

As an IT guy an 8 year old machine is a doorstop. Ours see recycler at 3 years old when they go out of warranty.

I've never heard of an online tuneup but I'd say the price exceeded the worth of the machine.

Don't feel bad. I am still running Windows XP on one of my desktops. Thanks god I have IPads and laptops.

My processor cost more than $249...

im curious as to how you manage to continue to use a 8 year old PC. With the specs required to run many programs and the average file size in this high def world, you had to of upgraded some components at some point.

Some people don't need something brand new to browse the internet or the like. Most of the time I use a laptop from mid 2012, still works great, albeit it will need a memory upgrade with Windows 10, but that's about it. Up to then I was using a computer that was built 6 years (2006 ish I think) prior with a processor that was essentially built 5 years prior to it. I would still use it on occasion had some of the caps on the motherboard not bloated causing failure a couple years ago. I just recently scrapped one of my daily computers that I built in 2001, same cap failure too...

Microsoft offers "FREE" Tune-ups and diagnostics if you visit any Microsoft Store with a Windows platform computer. If the support tech has to remote into your computer to do the same work, the meter starts running.

While Microsoft’s intentions appear to be genuine, it’s another opportunity for Microsoft to sell you additional services.

Apple is the same way if no Applecare, so it's not like it's special to Microsoft. They're providing a service, they should charge.

My HP PC is a 2007 model...takes 20-40 minutes for it to run good enough just to get on these forums and read. What a pain? AMD Athlon 64X X2 Dual-Core 400+, 1024 MB memory, 320HD. It's a lot slow starting and still too slow browsing, but it does work for the time...and that time has come.

Going to buy a $300-$450 laptop, probably another HP. Would like no less than 8GB memory and hard drive size can be low since I'll use an external hard drive mostly anyway.

However, been considering a Mac mini, or a Mac Book...mainly because it's a seemless fit with an Iphone. Love the simplicity of the IPhone...and yes I've had/used Android and while it's nice to have so many options I simply did not/do not need them.

I run and try various linux anymore
like zoro or Linux mint
my tuneups for windows was always avg free, spybot search and destroy, adware free
and for defrag and other stuff i usualy just downloaded better stuff with serial/ keygen and or patch lol

Windows 8 is good when you finally download a desktop start button

When I'm not nerding out over car care products, I'm nerding out over PC hardware. My current PC:

I never understood the PC tuneup. All my Windows computers died a slow death getting gunked up with God knows what.

My iMac is like 4 years old and still works good as new. This is a vast difference compared to my experience with Windows.

Macs are more expensive to begin with, but just work more reliably for the average user.

They are the Rupes system of computers.

Ok, let's not be bragging on offices now. Keep in mind I make my living doing this but here's my office at the house.

Left to right: Apple Mini with 2x26" monitors.
Apple iMac with 2x27" Thunderbolt monitors
Samsung Ativ Book 9 Plus Ultrabook.
Mac Pro
Apple 13" Retina Macbook w/27" ASUS IPS monitor.

Various printers, 24TB worth of network attached storage.
An Apple Mini running Kodi downstairs for a HPC and another 27" iMac for the wife.

And of course my Aeron chair for my fat a$$
