Dealership Strikes Again

Here are a couple pics I took with my camera phone of a car one of my customers just bought - this was straight from the dealership...apparently they gave her a "courtesy" buff. Knowing that they are going to want to (try) to fix it themselves, I told her to give them one shot and making it right before you demand that they give her money to hire someone elst to make it right.

And you know the halograms are bad if my lousy camera phone can capture them - I usually have a real hard time getting swirls and halograms to show up on pics taken with my camera phone!

Oh yeah, it's a black BMW 325...brand spanking new. She was even there to watch them peel the protective coating off (before they did thier fancy work on it of course).

it would be interesting to be present when they actually do the "detail" for new car deliveries. this is such a common thing...it gives me images of a very dark room, a bored 7 year old, and a rotary buffer.

should have her tell the dealership she would like to "courtesy" buff their personal cars. Then give her a random orbital sander. If she had given specific instructions about not to do that i would have not taken delivery. It looks horrible.

Sadly that's typical of a LOT of a dealerships.....even the high-end ones. I used to gain quite a few customers from the Mercedes dealer in my hometown just because you knew they would screw up the dark cars.

Exactly. They do in fact "send" me a lot of work.

What do you guys think - think they'll get it wrong again and end up having to pay me to do it right? The only way not is that if they hire an outsider to do it right, IMO.

She didn't give any instructions...unfortunately. I would have advised her accordingly, but she didn't consult me before making the purchase. In fact, she didn't even notice it till I pointed it out (she was doing to have me wax it for her) because it was overcast here in San Diego for several days in a row.

Yeah, I was really excited to have a clean slate black vehicle...one that I was going to be completely and solely responsible for washing and detailing. So I was actually quite sad too.

Local BMW dealer around here washes them with the real stiff bristle nylon brushes for their courtesy washes. Makes for swirl city. You would think the high end auto companies would send out memos on how to frickin wash a car.

Not uncommon at all, ALOT of dealerships have service people who lack basic motor skills. Sad...And it is partly her fault that she didnt check the car to see the swirls. Once it left they lot, they dont give a damn about you or your car anymore.

"courtesy buff" Thats a laugh...

And by the way, what moron car dealership thinks a NEW car needs a "courtesy buff"? I bet you the car had crap on the hood, probably some sort of vandalism. The dealership tried to fixed it but failed due to their high school drop outs incompetency in operating machines. That way when they present the car to her she thinks shes getting a deal. Leave the damn car alone!

^ that's why when i buy my next car, i'm bringing my xenon to highlight the true condition of the finish, in front of them...

haha, but being an Autopian, it would probably go like this:

"Do you SEE this?!"

"I'm sorry, sir, we can fix that for you..."

"no way, I'm taking it home. Bye."

Salesperson "umm, so why did you tell us this again... ?"

:chuckle:

:har: :har: :har: THAT is funny :funnypost

oh and i have never seen something like that but then again i dont go to high dollar dealers as there are none with a good distance. im thinking powergloss on a brand new car.

I'd have refused the car.

Moritz BMW here in Arlington sucks at least that much. F'ing unreal. You'd think that vehicle appearance would be a top priority, right?

I took my car into service recently at Lucas Honda here in Jacksonville, and proceeded to get a "courtesy hand wash" when my car was freshly detailed already. Needless to say, it went back to the garage.
