DAS Pad Life

The times I've had pads sort of fall apart in the middle like y'all are describing was due to heat build-up in the pad. The orbital change of direction of DA polishers (especially when you crank 'em up to top speed) really starts to put heat into the backing plate and velcro. I've taken to making sure I have multiple pads on hand, and swapping pads occasionally so they don't get too much heat at once. FWIW, I've had this has happened to me in the past on the PC with non-DAS pads, and I've had one DAS pad on the UDM fail. Every pad that it's happened to, when I peel it off the backing plate, the center of the back of the pad is HOT.

I guess it could have been a bad lot regarding the foam used to make the pads - or some manufacturing issue? I can honestly say that Autopia does stand behind their products tho, Lynn express shipped me a new pad the same day, no questions asked.

Wow this seems to be a common problem. I wonder what the deal is with the DAS orange pads

Tryinig to find pads locally is a PITA.

I have never had this type of trouble out of Meg pads, the velcro will come off before the pad crumbles, do you have a mirror glaze distributor near you

I know this won't help most of you, but if you're in SoCal and in need of pads ASAP, SuperAutobacs carries both 6.5" and 8" Meguiar's pads. Heck, they even carry the G100 (Meg's rebranded PC) in stock. I don't really care too much for my Meg's pads (I prefer LC's quality), but if I was ever in a pinch it's nice to know there's a big retail store with normal retail hours I can go to so I can finish a job with the proper tool. I have plenty of pads though so hopefully I won't ever run into that problem.

I live in Louisville and by luck there is a Mirror Glaze store one exit away, they are high on there prices but great to have in a pinch, they carry the entire Mrg line and nothing seems to ever be out of stock, well until I go there next time and they will be out of what I am looking for

Sadly I wasn't able to find anything like that here. When I order more pads I'm going to order a bunch of extra pads. I don't want to be in this position again. Luckily there was someone close by that could help me out.

Call some detailers in your area and see where locally they buy from
