DACP vs. AIO

I use DACP when SFP isn't aggressive enough.

I apologize to all that was a dumb question. Got my Mequiars Professional Product Guide just now.:o I wish it was easier to read those abrassive meters that they have.

I am guessing then that you use AIO on paint that is in great shape and only needs cleaning? Are there any other quality chemical cleaners?

AIO or Meguiars #20 Polymer Sealant are both quality chemical cleaners and they also lay down some protection as well.

I guess this is where experiance comes in. I would have put #20 in the same category as SG based on what I read in the product guide.

#20 should last longer than AIO by itself, but like AIO, it has intentional cleaning properties.

This thread is silly.

The two products are completely separate entities. They are not even close.

Bill North: While I highly respect your several classic previous posts, are you sure that AIO's 'abrasive' ability is not due to the rotating pad used?

jimamary,

I'm not Bill North but I have removed marring with AIO and it was by hand.

I remember that there was an abrassive test done comparing several products and AIO was abrassive. I think this test was done on a propeller from a boat with single stage paint. I can't remember who did it but I remember reading the thread.

Is there a rule of thumb of when to use a chemical cleaner vs a mechanical cleaner?
No, not really. Before AIO became popular for oxidation removal, people did the very same thing by using "conventional" abrasive products like swirl removers and compounds. You get the same result.

Personally I'm still not really a believer of this "chemical cleaner" vs abrasive idea, and think that AIO is just equipped with a very fine abrasive to do it's work. I have NO proof of this either way mind you. Since you have to be very aggressive with AIO anyway to remove very bad oxidation, how do you really know how it's doing this?

Basically DACP and AIO generally have very different job descriptions. Even if AIO gets off any oxidation, remember that it's probably not going to do very much for removing any swirls.

DETAILKING was the one who ran the propeller test: http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5794&highlight=propeller

Keep in mind though, most of these products also have solvents in them.... and solvents are something else that "cleans"....
