DA Comparison: Ease of Use/Vibrations

You're no help Accumulator (jk) I keep trying not to spend money and here you come making me rethink (which isn't hard).

ETA...

But, if I use the ease of correction use then the cyclo doesn't make sense. Can't get it and the Flex or the wife WOULD kill me.

captzippy- Well, the "what if you're only buying one?" really is a tough Q to answer! Overall, I think the Griot's is best for that situation. But...well, [everything on this thread] :nixweiss

Oh, OH, !OH! Almost forgot!! There are areas on XJS's that the Cyclo simply won't do. It just doesn't fit due to the basic shape/configuration/etc. Period, no discussion, topic closed, it won't do it. In fact, that was the reason I bought my first PC back in the '80s after having been a happy Cyclo user for years.

So if the Jag figures prominently in your polisher selection, I wouldn't choose the Cyclo.

Sheesh...see, it's been so long since I've seen my XJS, let alone polished it, that the whole Cyclo thing just slipped my mind! I had thought about maybe getting it on the road this year too, but then the Crown Vic thing took over.

Bought some pads and I will see how that goes first. If they don't cut it (literally) then I'll go for one of the other two options - Griots or Flex.

Just thought about this. Does either the Flex or Griot use the 5.5 inch pads I have?

You'd have to buy a separate backing plate for them in the case of the Flex; the Griot's could just use the plate you have for your older PC.

Having use both (not a pro by any means), but in my limited time, the GG is by far a better machine than my PC (450W vs 850W). The power difference can be felt by putting the GG at speed 4 vs PC at 5. No contest and the price difference is not much.. go for the GG (I will sometime in the future, but cannot justify it yet). If you cannot swing the new machine, then OPTI microfiber pads - the small ones - work like a champ. Slower yes, but much better correction than any foam pad can give you and they finish down quite well.

I've got a 3 inch backing plate coming. Will that work with the 5.25 inch Opti-pads?

No, but it will with the 3" pads.. great combo to spot compounding or on curved edges

captzippy- You want to keep the pad/plate sizes within about 1/2" of each other. If the plate is much smaller than that a) the outer portion of the pad won't be supported so it won't do it's polishing-thing right, and b) the plate can "cookie cut" the pad, messing it (and your work) up.

OK, I've gone as far as a 1" diff and had it work, uhm....pretty OK. But it wasn't a happy enough combo for me to recommend it.
