Cyclo Polisher VS Swirled Hood

We sell more of those pads than anyone in the country and NO ONE (except Anthony who called the Klingons!) has said one word about them!!

I feel neglected, shunned, ignored.... Well, I guess you should have said something, cause I'm going to try to get it corrected.

Have to give me some time.. I'll get back to you.

Heh heh, I sure hope you're being ( at least a little) facetious ;)

Yeah, I'm all  that I didn't say anything about it too :nixweiss Gad to hear you're gonna try to do something about it. It only takes one tiny piece of that plastic velcro stuff to really mar up a car with soft paint. To be honest, I have maybe a dozen Cyclo finishing pads that I'm not using because I can't deal with de-contaminating them. Soetimes the slubs are even down in the channels of the foam, below the surface; you think you have them all out and then one works its way to the surface of the pad when you're using it, and then it's :sosad

Just placed an order at Topoftheline.com for the cyclo as well as a few other tidbits. Irene, thanks again for your service. It is always a pleasure speaking with you!

If I get slubs on my finishing pads, I'll just cut my 6.5 inch pads to fit the cyclo. Accumulator and Anthony, thanks for the heads-up!

Ok, I inspected the pads and I'm gessing you mean those teenie little hairs? They are also on the green and the yellow, and have been since the beginning of time. The only way to stop that is going to a harder velcro material or another brand.

I have never heard of anyone having a problem with them until this, and am wondering if they are actually causing a problem. How do you know the hairs are the culprit.? How can you tell? If all of the pads have the debris, then why are just the white ones causing a problem?

You're quite welcome, ob.

I just received my reply from Cody Sutherland, an owner of Cyclo Toolmakers. He is addressing the velcro hair problem as we speak! :xyxthumbs

"I think the forum will be pleased to know we have identified the culprit for that unsightly hair: We have been packing the velcro backed foam pads with the velcro loop of one pad touching the foam of another pad. Beginning today we will pack them foam side to foam side and velcro side to velcro side.

We do not believe, however, that the hairs are the likely source of swirling. Just in case, we will change our packaging practice. More likely is the use of too much polishing compound. If a user applies more than a pad can readily accept, the compound can leave swirls rather than hazing the paint then buffing it out.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. And also please note (and perhaps let the forum know) that it is important to store foam NOT in contact with the rubber jackets or they will discolor the foam. There is no damage beyond the discoloration though."

Warm regards,

Cody

Car24- Hey, that's great. I'm *very* impressed that they would address this issue. Let us know when the next shipment arrives and whether the new packing method solves the problem. If so, I'll order my next batch of Cyclo pads from TOL in appreciation of your efforts.

Ya know, the folks at Cyclo Toolmakers are a great bunch. I've talked with Steve there about servicing them, and now it sounds like Cody's a good guy too :xyxthumbs

I will say that this might only be a problem on very soft paints. Since everyone finds it so incredible that the velcro swirled my paint, it must not be an every-day occurrence. With all the Cyclos out there it's sure funny that I (and to a lesser extent, Anthony O.) am the only person having the problem. But as I said, I'm just not gonna take a chance on messing up another finish at the final (finishing pad) stages.

I should also give credit to whichever vendor I got my *last* batch of Cyclo pads from. Probably CMA (since I got a bunch of stuff from them recently) but I honestly don't remember. The finishing pads were packed in individual plastic baggies (the way WCD does it) and were virtually free of contamination. I was so used to them being contaminated that I just put the new ones in my Cyclo pad drawer without even looking at them :o

You guys are quite welcome. I had no doubts that they would try their best to solve the problem.

Gosh I wish WE had the time to bag our pads. At 400-500 a week, that's only a fantasy. We will however, place them foam to foam, from now on. This includes the other colors as well. The hairs are on all of them!

Wow, that's a *LOT* of Cyclo pads  Guess there are more Cyclo users out there than some might think! Glad to hear they're so popular.

It shouldn't be too surprising. Remember, they've been around since the 50's. It's been our experience that our pros rarely choose other orbitals.

A female customer once told me she loved hers so much, she kept it by her bed at night! :shocked

Has my wife been calling you?

Well, I can certainly understand that. Seems like more people here at Autopia are using them now too. A year ago there were only a handful of us with them, now they're not so uncommon.

The Cyclo is an awesome machine - when I purchased it I was torn between the PC or the Cyclo. Even though the PC was less expensive I decided on the Cyclo because I felt it was a better machine and would serve me better and for a longer period of time.

UPS delivered my new Makita 9227CX3 today - and I can hardly wait to use it. In anticipation of it's delivery, I pickup the following items from a local distributor the day before I received the Makita: Meguiar's #1 Medium Cut Cleaner, #2 Fine Cut Cleaner, #9 Swirl Remover, #7 Show Car Glaze, #26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax, a 6.5" Velcro backing plate and 3 6.5" foam pads (cutting, polish & finishing pad). And of course the Unigrit sandpaper and backing pad.

I thought it was time for me to have the rotary. I bought a Cyclo Polisher for Christmas and it has been a joy to use - it is really an awesome machine (it even make my job easier when I do carpets and upholsery.

400-500 per week? Irene, that is awesome. I haven't been around that long to accumulate that many customers. I admit freely that if I was putting out that many pads, I don' t think I could pack them as I do now, or have the time to pick out the slubs (I'd never get them on the UPS truck!) :)

Glad to see you are doing so well. I was a customer for years prior to beginning my own company. You were always customer friendly and quick to respond to my emails.

Take care,

Of course I remember you, Robert. We had many conversations through the years. I'm glad to see you are still in the business.

It's taken us 17 years, and it only seems to get more difficult. I remember having time to do those "little details" in the beginning. Boy was that a luxury. Now we just strive to do the best job possible, as fast as possible!. You're right, it's not easy.

Keep in touch.

we received that sort of report last week and believe what's being described are the black "hairs" from the velcro backing. We immediately started packing our foam pads with foam against foam and velcro against velcro. Before they were stacked foam side to velcro side.

This is the response from Cyclo. I am going to check my next order and see it there is improvement.

R Regan
