Cut off for rinseless wash

Just curious what everyone's personal cut off for doing a rinseless wash is. At what point for you is a car too dirty and you go to a two bucket wash?

If I can pickup the dirt with my fingers. Then I pressure wash first and then do a rinseless after.

After a few days of being exposed to pollen and spotty rain it gets an old school wash. I power rinse first and go from there to determine my wash.

I do a rinseless regardless of the dirt. If it gets dirty often (like in the monsoon), I wash it often.

Also, if the car is dirtier, it gets a good pre-soak beforehand.

Think I may splurge soon for a foam cannon. I love the idea of the rinseless wash and it works awesome the few times I've done it. The problem is I don't get a chance to wash my vehicles nearly as often as I would like, so I find myself doing a two bucket the majority of the time because I feel like our vehicles are too dirty for rinseless. That causes its own set of problems though as I have no shade at my house and it is pretty much impossible to do a two bucket wash without getting hard water spots due to not being able to dry the car fast enough.

I'm wondering if my best bet is to foam first and then do a rinseless so I can wash and dry as I go in the garage

House of Wax- If I were you, I'd get a pressure washer.  Not sure I'd buy/use a foam cannon with it, but that's just me and I have my own take on "foam".  In your case I think you need to get the "big stuff" off without marring, and a pressure washer oughta do that.  Not sure how much the foaming will actually contribute if used merely as a pre-soak.

I already have a pressure washer and have waffled back and forth for a couple years it seems trying to decide if the foam pre-soak was just a fun gimmick or if it was really useful.

Foam is great for oil or salt film covered cars but for regular dirt it's a waste of time for me.

House of Wax- Ah, good that you have that.  You could experiement and find out for sure!

IME, even on salt, I find the foamy presoak to be of very limited value.  OK, the long dwell-time is of *some* benefit, but IMO it's just not that big a factor. BUT THAT'S JUST ME.  There seem to be a whole lotta wildcard factors in this stuff and IMO you won't really know what's good/not for you until you try it.

If (OK, *when*) I get a new pressure washer I'll have to hook up my never-used foamer and see how it works.

Hey Dan, you still happy with that little AR pressure washer of yours?  I keep hoping for a big sale on 'em....

It's near the end of its life already. The casing just started dumping some sort of oil a few weeks ago. Next PW for me is going to be another $100 disposable wonder.

Aw, sorry to hear that (for a number of reasons)!  It did last a *lot* longer than my Karchers though.

Hmmm..."disposable wonder" every now and then, or a big investment?  Wonder which way one oughta jump...
