Customers asking for specific products.

AESOP F1's thread about Zaino had me wondering. For those of you who detail for money, how often do you have customers who ask you to use a specific product? I think if I were a customer, I would want a detailer to use his best judgement to use the products he thinks would be best for my car and to use the products he is most experienced with and is fimiliar with any oddities of that prodcut rather than asking him to use a product he doens't have much experience with.

I guess it is those customers who ask for specific products who know nothing about detailing who don't realize that as you use a product you learn more about it and can take the product to its peak. My guess is their neighbor or friend just had their car detailed and the detailer used XYZ product on their car and they assume it would be the best product for their car also?

A funny story about this, a few years ago Joe from Superior Shine was talking about a car he detailed. I am pretty sure he used mostly Megs products during the detail (which I believe is the norm for Joe) and when the customer came to pick up the car, they were thrilled with its looks. He later found out that he was supposed to use the Adams products that were in the truck but the person that dropped off the car forgot to mention that to him. lol.

Almost never do i have customers request specific products. In the event that i don't have the product i simply schedule the detail so i have enough time to get it ship. I find it helps to surf Autopia often to get the scoop on a lot of products, that way if a customer does ask about a product you don't have you can at lest give them an educated answer or advice regarding the product.

Often times i have return customers request that i use the same "stuff" as the past details because they really liked it, or request for something a little different to help fit a budget, improve a look, add protection ect.
