Curious events on detailingbliss.com

While DB is a little totalitarian, its nowhere near as bad as some of you make it out to be.

I hadn't checked this thread for a while, so please forgive the belated reply. While you may be referring to publicly viewed actions, based on an interpretation of forum rules, this is an entirely different matter. No rules were broken. The admin took it upon himself to clandestinely tweak the forum software and make viewing more difficult for selected individuals. At the risk of stating the obvious, given the nature of a public forum, such a thing warrants another look.

Whats really irksome is that 2 members from the EVO community brought their argument to 2 entirely different boards, rather than leaving it on EVO.

This has nothing to do with Evos and/or the Evo forum, aside from being a catalyst what transpired on a board that wants to cater to the detailing community. I, for one, have a hard time grasping the thought behind petty retaliation for expressing a personal opinion, or any other action that serves to stifle a free exchanges of ideas. Apparently, DB feels differently.

In the words of Groucho Marx...

I wouldn't belong to any association that would have me as a member...

I am on the board of trustees on a firefighter website and have full moderation powers. Our site has been up for 5 years... we haven't had to delete too many posts, and we have only banned 2 people, and that was only because they were posting information about firefighting tactics that would get someone killed if they followed their "advice".

Differences of opinion are welcomed... and if you cannot agree with someone's opinion, you can "agree to disagree" and move on.

I've been lurking on here for a time and wanted to express my views. I originally started on DetailUniversity and it did not have enough traffic to whet my appetite, especially when I was just learning. Then I transferred over to DB about a year or so ago and that's when I really started learning.

FJF, the problem lies not in your assertion that OTC or Boutique products are better, but in your elitist mentality. I spent a lot of time on DB, with a lot of posts, and my most expensive wax to date costs $40. I would be hard pressed to believe that someone would buy something because it's more expensive, especially in these economic times. You're passing stereotypes upon everyone based off a few people on the site who have a lot of money and don't mind spending it. You break down the different sites as if you are definite that this is the overwhelming mentality at each of these forums. I've seen the thread you bashed on DB about and it's clear you are egotistic. Why? It's great you have such a vast vocabulary, but using it in context to provide a "social study" of different forums is completely unneccessary.

Don't just "play casual" about trying to call people out like that, just don't do it. You can't spark an argument and then act as if the other person is being ridiculous. The world doesn't work on "personal opinions". All of a sudden it's a petty argument, that you clearly started. You expressed your opinion, 5 pages worth of posts expressed other people's opinions. Are you claiming that only your opinion is justified? It's hypocritical.

I personally don't agree with everything that Carlos does, but the bottom line is that it's his website and you are free to come and leave as you please. Bad experience? Fine. Just don't stereotype the rest of us as if we're uneducated and blindly follow people. EVERYONE at some point in detailing had gotten a lead to a product they should try, expensive or not. I personally don't buy a product unless I research it, as a lot of my friends on there do.

Bottom line, stop playing coy about the situation. Every cause has an effect. If you don't like the effect, don't cause it. I didn't intend for my first post to be like this, but so be it. I'm not mad or anything, it's just annoying to have to deal with this situation.

I'm not much of a poster, on this or any other board. Long time lurker, though. I lurk DB 'cause that's where I learned about Bilt Hamber and Majestic Solutions. I have posted there a grand total of 3 times. What I found odd was that my posts were straightforward questions, simply seeking information. What I got, each time, was a pis*fight between their long-time posters regarding the quality of the product which was the subject of my post. I was not asking about quality. My questions, which again were very simple, were never answered. When I do post, it is usually in response to questions about a product which I happen to have experience with that not too many others do. Otherwise, I'm just clogging the thread with "+1," "Me too," etc. Just my $.02...

take everything with a grain of salt. I think I have used over 500 products during my career and the most expensive is not always the best, sometimes the opposite is true. When you are on long enough you will know who is full of BS and who is worthwile talking to, those worthwhile put them on your buddy list and who cares what everyone else says.
