Crystal Glossed Green Lambo

A buddy of mine just bought a new car. He got the dealer added paint protection. They told him he doesn't need to wax the car, or at least he shouldn't.

What do you guys think?

I figure what harm could it do? Even if it messes up the paint protection, he can just wash the car with dawn. Then take it back for whatever warranty work needs to be done on the paint.

Probably at this stage he should leave well enough alone and wait a couple of months till the crap the dealer put on it wears off. At that time he can choose from a proper system and maintain his finish. Tell him of course to wash the vehicle properly....Dealers would have him in automatic car washes too. Car salesmen make great bonuses selling "paint protection" to new car buyers.

The paint protection is probably just a polymer paint sealant.

He should read the fine print if he expects to use the warranty from this sealant.

I for one would not have purchased it and prep the paint and apply my own sealant like KLasse, Zaino or black fire.

Yea in a few months that stuff will be gone. I read somewhere than salesman get like 40% of the price of the paint protection as comission for selling it!

When it's gone tell him to start a good system.

Most car dealerships use cost effective detailing products so I would feel better starting over and having the satasfaction of knowing that one did the job right.

I'd hate to be the one to tell your friend that he got robbed! The paint protection sealant that sells for $300-$600 or so is a huge ripoff. Your friend could have gotten a better system for $20 in a bottle of Klasse Sealant Glaze or bottle of Z-2. Oh well. You live and you learn. Don't make the same mistake as he did and please inform others to not fall in this same trap.

I would definitely strip the product that is on the car right now. The sad thing is that you don't even know what type of product was used on it. You can strip it with Dawn and then use a better system such as Klasse, Zaino or Blackfire. Laters

I was in a local (Detroit area) Ford dealer yesterday getting a part for my car and wandered into the showroom. They were selling, of all things, "professionally applied" Turtle Wax paint sealant.

The salesman I struck up a conversation with said "Save your money and go to Murray's (a local auto parts chain) and buy a bottle of Meguiars Mirror Glaze No. 20 and do it your sellf and save $300." My jaw just about hit the ground. The first honest thing I heard from a car salesman in...well....ever!!

That guy won't last long in car sales being that honest. Just think what you could do with the $300. You could build up a nice little arsenal including a PC and some MF towels not to mention some good quality sealant.

ahving worked at a dealership, I can tell you that the product costs the fealer 32 dollars and he sells it to you for 300-500. THis stuff is nothing more than wax, polymers and resins in one. No layering is possible, one coat ONLY. Just like meguiars deep crystal caranuba in a can! Nothing more.

You cant lose with Klasse or Zaino. 4 coats of this and your car is set. Nothing compares.

Has anyone ever gotten a refund back from the dealer$hip for the overpriced sealant? I am going to be looking at the 5-year warranty it came with to see if I can get my mother's $500 back. This was a "Teflon" paint sealant that lasts "5 years". The markup on these things is insane!

No kidding, <strong class='bbc'>Short Cut[/b], on both counts! Car sales is still the biggest pain-in-the-rear for giving the rest of us sales professionals a bad rap. Also, you're right on the money on what $300 could buy the do-it-yourself detailer (namely - We Autopians!!). $300 to $500 is insane for something that you can do yourself for $20!!

Well I?ve been slacking in my posting of my work, sorry just too much going on!

This was a true treat to work on, I really learned to love the color, the metallic just glows when properly polished. This was in pretty good shape as far as things go, it was hard to see the swirls and imperfections. Putting on some high quality UV sunglasses helped a ton!

I didn?t really have time to do a full on step by step documentation of this car, but you get the idea of the final outcome.

I gave it a chemical guys CWG bath
Sonax wheel cleaner
Milagire wheel sealant
Ultima trim and tire on tires
Menzerna 203 on a black pad rotary style on heavy areas
Megs 205 black pad on lighter areas
303 on exterior black trim
DoJo Juice Lime Prime
LSP Zymol Vintage

After a proper inspection in full sun, I tagged the areas of concern and added attention, this client has a darn good eye for the imperfections and helped in the inspection!

The paint just drips in crystal gloss.

Cheers,

Greg,

I'm green with envy and I'm so glad you found my car! LOL

I see allot of other vehicles in the background, are they part of the same collection or various owners?
