crazy car detailing $$$$

Just FYI - Paul Dalton is a member (and active if I recall) at one of the other detailing forums - Detailing Bliss I believe. Instead of all the speculating, you could go over there and ask him a question and/or see what he posts regarding process and work.

Regardless of what you think about what he uses or how he does a detail, he is obviously one hell of a marketer. He's taken something that just about anyone with common sense can learn to do (detailing) and sold it as something akin to magical power to his customers.

My hats off to the man for what he's become. I do have a certain level of respect for him since he can make more on 2 cars than I do in an entire quarter. He might be a snake oil salesman, but there's no doubt that he can sell the $hit of his business and products.

What, exactly, do you consider the snake-oil that he sells? From what I've read and seen, he does a similar process to what many of us do. I don't recall ever seeing where he sold someone a "miracle 5 year acrylic paint conditioner" or the like that most of us would consider snake-oil.

I think crystal rock is absolute snake oil. Videos taken after a few coats of wax was applied to show water beading don't impress me. A good paint sealant will do the same thing. If his wax would do that after 8 months I would change my opinion. I realize that Chrystal Rock is part of his image and without it he might not be where he is today, who knows. Once again, its part of his marketing campaign.

Yeah, I've found Paul to be quite helpful... a regular guy. I suppose that I was expecting some sort of snob, but that is certainly not the case.

I applaud his success and wish him all the best.

Nothing wrong with him. I see that it is "you either like him or not". If he charges that much, kudos to him. I sure as hell couldn't get anyone to pay that amount, let alone, $400 for a paint correction on an SUV...... But, it's all in the marketing. If you have someone with more money than sense, and love to spend it, you can get them to buy anything.... All in the marketing....

There is certainly something to the marketing side of his business, but marketing will only help get that first bite. You are going to have to deliver after that or the return customers won't be there and forget about word of mouth advertising. You can only sell the sizzle once, after that there had better be a nice steak on the platter. :)

True. And customers that sink that kind of money like to hear you are using expensive products.
I mean, you could take some OTC products, put them in a fancy container/spray bottle, and most of the time, they won't have a clue.

Do Do is already taken but we could come up with something for dogie crap tire dressing

Haha! Before this post passes into internet archive oblivion, I wanted to recognize it as the best line in at least a week, maybe a month! LOL!

"DOE-DOE" not "DOO-DOO" :rofl

Jeez! Did he hire the Top Gear production crew to put that HD trailer together? That's one of the most insane things I've ever seen.
