Cracking/Peeling Clearcoat on roof?

I am getting cracking/peeling clearcoat on the top of my acura. I know the best option is to simply get it repainted but, are there any steps I can take to try to blend it? I was thinking of either sanding or peeling the clear to the edge and polishing and waxing the hell out of the exposed paint under the clearcoat. Wouldnt that bring back the gloss? I imagine if it worked, id just have to pay attention to that spot to make sure the wax coat was fresh.

Thanks all

I did that with a black car I was selling and it turned out pretty good (at least it looked better then before). I peeled most of the old clear off and polished the base coat and then waxed the heck out of it. The only problem that I noticed was that the base paint was very thin and I could go through it if I wasn't careful. Since I sold the car I don't know if it held up or not.

I've wet sanded away the clear in some rough spots on a black car also. It depends on how bad it is. If your whole roof is gone a repaint will be the only fix. However a few tiny spots can be blended by wet sanding and some good polish work.
