When I got a call from somone asking if I could look at their car I said sure what service do you need? "MY car was egged" oh boy I thought to myself, remembering a while back seeing the damage eggs do to a finish. I asked how long it was on the car, they said about an hour before they noticed it and started cleaning it off. I said bring it in now if possible. When I saw the finish I couldn't believe my eyes, it actiually ate through the paint right to the metal, in other places it just etched it, I was able to bring it back where the halo was, but I couldn't do a thing where the paint was gone. I was sad I couldn't help this guy, he was really down over this incident. Why is it that eggs can destroy a finish so quickly and so permanently? If I ever saw someone do this in the act, I would break their arms. Makes no sense. Gary
 
From what I have been told it the shell that penetrates the paint and causes the "circular" damage that you see.
 
The amino acids and the proteins in the eggs are what eat the finish. The long the egg stays the more damage it does.
 
My car got egged at work one Mischief Night when I was working late, so I called the cops. They showed up, it's dark, they ask if I have a hose, I say not really (huge pain to get it out and hooked up), they tell me I'd better wash the egg off right away or it will eat the paint, so I did. I had mostly shell damage but some staining in one spot which maybe I didn't see at the time the cops were there--which has resisted any subsequent polishing attempts.

Exactly. The instant the egg hits, the damage is done.
 
I had a customer with a black Suburban that was egged while he and his family were out trick or treating one Halloween evening. There wasn't a panel that didn't get hit.



The bad news: the vehicle was damaged so badly that it need a total repaint.



The good news: the police caught the "little band of eggers"

( kids 12 to 14) in the act of egging another car and their parents had to pay restitution for the damage! It wasn't cheap!
