Could loss of beading be a result of..

Detailing Stare
Here's the setup. The truck is really very dirty and hasn't been washed for a few months (no need to now anyway since it goes in the body shop soon). Anyway, I put on a coat of AIO and then two coats of SG probably back in late September or October.

Ok, so last week in all the rain it wasn't beading very well. Now I thought at first that the SG had just worn off, but then I got to thinking, well maybe it's partly or even primarily because it is so dirty. Could it be that so much dirt on the hood has formed a layer, literally of dirt and would that prevent beading?

And yes, I know, it's a long time to go without washing, but then again the weather hasn't exactly been cooperating either. The wife's car went in the body shop just this morning.

For thos of you that may recall, a couple days before Christmas the snow caused the carport to come crashing down on the truck and car. So I won't be detailing till probably April anyway.

But I was owndering about the beading. Any thoughts on this?

Beside dust, the oily films from cars' exhaust fumes and pools of water are pretty nasty as well.

Kim of course any airborne contaminates that lands and settles on your finish can reduce or change beading characteristics;)

hey Chee .."GOT MILK? " :lmfao

One thing I've noticed is the clearcoat.

My truck ('99 Dakota sport) has no clearcoat. A couple of coats of megs and the dirt just rolls off after a rain. Go to a hand wash and it's clean. Even after driving in the rain for a day and it still beads.

My car ('04 Optima) has clearcoat. I wax the thing sometimes two times a week. If there's a puddle within a mile of the thing it's dirty, beading stops and it's like a 10 year old paint job.

Just a couple of pennies worth.
