Corvette paint awareness?

Dear all,





I am new to detailing. I am yet to detail one of my own car, it is 99 Red Corvette convertible.

Anything that i have to be aware of when i am doing a 2 step paint correction with SIP and P085RD and my PC7424? Also, How many pads do you usually use in detailing one car?

I just don't want to mess with the paint, i am afraid to damage the paint.

I wouldnt be worried about damaging the paint. Its possible, but VERY unlikely, you really gotta screw up. But I will say vette paint is extremely hard, unless the paint is in very good condition, you wont get much correction using a PC. A rotary would be much more efficient.
 
if i want a nice turnout but not perfect, do you think i should get someone to detail instead of doing it myself?
 
Try a test spot with your current configuration. If you can get a decent finish that you like, factor in how much time it took for that one spot and imagine doing that for the whole car. That way you can figure out if you want to do the full correction or just have a Pro come in and you just take care of it after ;)

Detailing is very subjective. What many people think looks great, others might think looks terrible. I would do what eyezack87 said and do a test spot. See how it turns out and if you like the results or not.



I recommend to a lot of people to get the car detailed by a professional, than maintain it yourself.
 
What kind of pads do you have/plan to use? As stated above, Vettes have a hard CC and are best corrected by a rotary. You can still get good results using the PC however.
 
I plan to use orange and yellow pad for SIP, and white for P085RD! and LSP with concorso!!

Do you think is a good combo?
 
Hmm...I'm not sure you will need the yellow pad. You might have to make a few passes with the SIP/orange combo, then down to SIP/white, and then finally 85rd with a blue pad. You might think of getting some 106fa...it has a little more cut than the 85rd. Hope that helps.
 
If you're going to use a $250 wax like Concorso than Id definitely let a professional correct the paint first. It wouldnt make sense to put an expensive wax like that on paint that isnt corrected properly.
