Correct pads for PC 7424

Help needed. Newbie here, I just purchased two 10" black sponge pads for my PC 7424. Did I purchase the correct pads?

I want to clean, polish and wax my black 2k5 Lincoln LS. In the past I have been doing this ny hand. If the pads that I just purchased are wrong, what pads should I be using?

Can I use my PC 7424 with cleaner, or is it just for polishing and waxing? Is there a chart that says what pad to use for waxing /polishing/cleaning? Thanks, in advance.

Hello fellow Newbie!

Here is a page with some advice:

Auto Detailing Facts, auto detailing Tips, How to detailing Guides, how to polish, how to wax, DIY detailing, do it yourself guides

I don't understand what you are asking about using a PC as a cleaner, you should always wash and clay bar the vehicle before polishing with a PC. How you wash your vehicle is up to you, recommended on here is the two bucket method.

There is tons of advice on this website - I have been perusing it for years, I just finally signed up.

Here are some suggestions for pads with PC:

Polishing pads, buffing pads, buffing accessories, backing plates, porter cable pads, flex polishing pads

I believe the most popular pads for the PC would be the Lake Country Pads.

Here is a chart on when to use which pads:

No, those are too big for any practical use on a PC. The large area will create too much friction and the PC will merely "jiggle" under any applied pressure.

For *VERY* gentle work (waxing, etc.) you might get by with 6-6.5" pads. You might do OK using that size with paint cleaners.

For use with polishes, I wouldn't go any larger than 5.5", and I prefer 4" pads for polishing with that machine.

I'd just polish and wax, letting the polish do any cleaning that a pre-polish claying didn't take care of.

These days I generally recommend the LC HydroTech line of pads.

You can pretty much use the PC for anything you'd otherwise do by hand. It's like "a fast hand that doesn't get fatigued".

Oh, and Welcome to Autopia, you too, SteelCityYaga.

go there and order up some 5.5" pads - 4 orange 3 white and 2 black with a 5" backing plate for the PC. While you are at it, get some menzerna polishes - 203 and 85rd

the above setup will get you some really good results. If you need a polish with more cut, get some meguiars 105.

My typical routine on most cars, depending on condition, but I usually get the trashed ones, is the following:

105 on orange pad

203 on white pad

85rd on black pad

if your car doesnt need 105, then try the following process

203 on orange

85rd on white

you could stop there, but try 85rd on black after and you will see an even glossier finish

hope that helps
