Convertable Cleaning/Protectant

I did two heavy coats of ScothGuard fabric protectant on the convertible top of our BMW when it was new. It still beads remarkably well...I just rinse it off when the car gets washed. If there are any spots that need attention I use Porsche's soft top soap. It seems fine.

If your top is vinyl, then treat it as any other car vinyl - wash it with car shampoo and protect it with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

If you top is fabric, then it needs special care! Vacuum frequently, dust is the killer of cloth tops. Only wash the top when it is dirty, not at every car wash - - and always vacuum before washing to keep the dust/dirt from turning to mud on the top. RaggTopp is by far the best cleaner and protectant available for cloth tops. If there are spots that resist normal washing use a very soft brush as an aid.
