Consumer Reports review of scratch removers.

The secret to understanding CR is understanding their ranking criteria. I often disagree with that think is important so I disagree with their recommendations. They try to create differences between products when there is not that much different. For example, they always discussing braking performance. In the real world most cars are very close (good enough) and any difference in actual performance is more related to human reaction time.

It can have useful information as a shopper's guide but no one should ever blindly take the advice of anyone (CR or otherwise) unless that is what you really want.

I've been a member of CR for many years now. I always check their ratings on vehicles before I buy one. HOWEVER, a few years ago they used to give extremely high marks to BMW. They made it sound like God Himself built them. Then a few years later, they don't even recommend them any more. How is it that they went from being the greatest cars on their planet to not even being recommended anymore? Sounds like Honda & Toyota are willing to grease a few more palms over at CR.

The BMW 530 was the best car they ever tested, as far as test results go, but they only recommend cars that are above average reliability. If they pick a BMW as the best car ever, they can't be all bad. German cars are the best to drive, but they're not the most reliable.
