My suggestion is a toyota corolla. I have a 1989 corolla and besides body rust and the stinky interior it is a great car. It has 400 000km on it and ran very well in this past winter and i live in Toronto, Canada. You wont have many problems with it, they are extremely well built and reliable and have great fuel economy.
Also corollas are very popular here in toronto and as some have mentioned before if something does go wrong, mechanics would be able to repair her easily and they can use parts from the junkyard to save money!
