I have installed the Maxthon browser. It works well except for a few problems. I was under the impression that because this browser runs off the IE engine that all pages would look the same in Maxthon as IE. I am finding this is not the case. In many off the pages the text is too small in Maxthon but looks great in IE. The text size on these pages can not be adjusted using the View Menu Text Size option. This is not a problem in IE because the page looks fine but in Maxthon the text is too small. I have asked the people on the Maxthon Forum and they say the pages should look the same in IE and Maxthon and they are not really giving any advise I can use towards this problem. Is there some setting in IE or Maxthon I am missing?

I have Firefox and am typing this in Firefox right now.:howdy

I am just trying out some other browsers as well and right now I am trying Maxthon. It is a pretty good browser. Uses very little memory and is loaded with features right out of the box. Firefox uses a lot of memory compared to Maxthon. FireFox is also a pretty stripped down browser feature wise until you add the extensions and sometimes those extensions cause problems.

When I launch Maxthon it loads at 5MB compared to 30+ for Firefox. Firefox can use 70- 90 MB regularly for me and that's low for Firfox compared to some of the people on the Firefox forum. Some of those guys regularly see 100-200 MB of memory use with Firefox. Last night I was browsing for 3 hours with Maxthon and it never went one 9MB.

have you tried pushing control + or control - (the ones next to the backspace). That changed the size of everything. Just an idea.

I have just started to use Maxthon, since your thread about it.
The Maxthon text is the same size as IE, and Firefox's.

Unless it's something in your Maxthon configuration, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling it?

Or ctrl-mousewheel also, to change text size.

No I haven't tried uninstalling it yet that will be my last resort and it seems like I am there now. I might try it tonight.

As for the suggestions about using control + or Control mouse wheel. They do not work on every site. Some sites just don't let you change the text size like that with the browser. Unfortunately for me those are the sites that the text is too small on. The sites that Control+ or mouse wheel + control work on I don't need to use them because the text size is already fine.

The people on the forum seem to be at a loss.

What version # are you using? Did you install the combo or standard? Did you install Unicode or ANSI? What site did you download from?

It's not like you are going to hurt anything to uninstall and re-install.
I don't know if you tried a restart on your syatyem, somtimes things seem to right themselves are that.

I hope you get it to work, it is a nice program, and you'll probably like it.

Good luck

Well? Maybe the site you used or the combo VS standard or Unicode VS ANSI has something to do with it? If I reinstall I don't want the same version if that is what's causing the problems.

Sorry.. missed your question
I downloaded Maxthon Browser v1.5.6 build 42 Combo from download.com
When I click on "about Maxthon" in the help it says unicode after the ver & build.

What OS are you running?

I am running Windows XP Home SP2 on a Dell Laptop.

I down loaded 1.5.6 build 42 standard from Mirror Site #1 listed on the Maxthon home page. I also have Unicode.

The difference between the combo and standard is the combo comes with some skins and plugins I didn't want/need. Maybe I will try the combo version and down load it from Down Load.com. Since everything else works well I am doubting it's the download but I will try any way.

One other question. In options > Maxthon Options > Tabs > appearance, are you able to set the background colors for inactive and active tabs. I can't but all the other options work. Could you check please. Thanks

It's weird. The sites that let you adjust text size appear fine in Maxthon with no need to adjust text size. The sites that don't let you adjust text size are the ones that the text size it too small on with Maxthon but IE looks fine on them.

Who can adjust the text size on Detail City using Control + or Mouse Wheel + Control or View Menu > Fonts/text size? I cannot adjust the text size on DC with those options in IE or Maxthon.

I can do it with Firefox.

I can resize here on DetailCity, using IE 7 Beta 3. Also with Netscape 8.1

Yeah apparently IE 7 makes changes to that. There just some sites you can't adjust the text size on with IE 6 and under. I have never been able to change the text size on DC with any computer I have used IE 6 on. Firefox is different animal though.

No, Anthony. It doesn't work with IE. I had never noticed it before. Hope you get it worked out.

There are just some pages where the text size controls do not in IE.

I have found a work around sorta. I was fiddling around with the IE options and found this

Tools > Internet Options > General > Accessibility Tab (button right corner of Page) > Ignore font sizes specified by page

This increased my text sizes and lets you adjust them with View menu and control + scroll wheel. I have no idea what that feature is there for.
