ColorX vs ScratchX vs DACP

I forgot to have this discussion w/ Mike last night, but would it be beneficial to say use DACP and ColorX? Or since they are both essentially a polish they are cancelling each other out?

ColorX leaves some protection behind, so it would have at least some improvement after DACP. DACP works to correct the paint through abrasives, so you can't really cancel that out unless you swirl the paint all up again.

However, what would be the point of the ColorX after DACP? What would you be trying to accomplish?

DACP followed by ColorX is a good combo. I think DACP followed by Tech Wax is a better combo. If a person has the time, then I think DACP followed by either a pure polish or Speed Glaze, and then followed by Tech Wax is usually better.

After polishing your paint with a product like #83 DACP, in most cases your paint will be better off coated with a wax versus nothing at all. So if all you have is ColorX, then this would better than nothing. That said, ColorX is now slouch, so far everything I a have applied it to has come out looking great!

So color X is more of a wax then polish? I'm assuming it's nowhere near as abbrasive as DACP?

What does Speed Glaze do? That's #2 right?

These are the questions you forget to ask when you have the man right in front of you :D

ColorX is a cleaner/wax and it is less abrasive than DACP but I don't know how abrasive it is. (Did that make sense?) Speed Glaze is #80 in the Pro Line of goods.

ColorX is a strong cleaner/wax. As a Meguiar's product, this means it cleans, polishes and protects in one step.

ColorX can be used by hand or with an orbital polisher. I'll check to see if we also say it can be used with a rotary buffer, my guess is yes it can.

IMO, ColorX isn't in the same league as the other products mentioned. I haven't found that it has any noticeable abrasive properties at all. It is much less than the already light abrasiveness of my 3m SMR. I liken it to AIO, a cheap alternative at that. Good for what it is, but it isn't abrasive.

Pics are red Xs for me. Care to elaborate? I base my statements on the following:

Trying to remove black stains on the side of a camper. It is stored outside, and hadn't been waxed. Normal cleaners wouldn't take it off, so I tried colorX. It wouldn't even touch it. Then I tried 3m SMR (which has little to no abrasiveness IMO) and it pulled the stain right off. It is my opinion that it was that slight abrasiveness that resulted in the cleaning action. If you feel differently (not sure what I was going to see in that thread...) I'd like to know. I'm getting ready to try it on some old, neglected, severely oxidized paint as soon as my #80 comes in. I'm going to do colorX first to remove the oxidation so I can see what I have to work with. Maybe it's 'cleaners' (I thought they were all chemical, not abrasive) are just optimized for oxidation?

it's a picture of the 69 mustang I witnessed mike phillips use color X on w/ a PC and polishing pad. The oxidation and blemishes it removed were unreal. Hopefully he'll get the pics back up soon

Hundreds of pictures have been lost due to another server crash and the fact that Photo Post takes a long time to back up.

I will try to upload the photos again, but it takes time, and I have lots of other things to do. In my life, I have found I never have time to do things twice, this includes detailing cars. That's why I have always used Meguiar's, I get top notch professional results the first time so I don't have to do it a second time. I don't have time to reload pictures twice, but... I'll try to find the time as I continue to get e-mail from people telling me the pictures don't show up in the threads they're reading.

I apologize, and I'll see what I can do.

Mike please correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that the cleaners in ColorX are primarily chemical based with little to no abrassives.

My experience is that ColorX's analogue in the Pro line is #6. IMO, ColorX is a better product in every way; it cleans better and looks better. #6 is no slouch, but if you have ColorX, you don't need #6.

Me experience with ColorX is that it's less chemical than MPPC and about the same mechanical, maybe a little less than #9. The shine is similar to having done a 3step maroon bottle.

Is it better to use DACP then #80 or DACP then #9? I've been following with #9 but it seems like a lot of people in these forums use #80 and I'm not sure what the reasoning is.

I use DACP then #9 too. SO I'd be interested in the answer to that question as well.
