Collinite?

Sorry Accumulator always let my waxes dry for an hour or so. Not trying to disagree though. You always say use the swipe test I just go to extremes.

Eh, we're not disagreeing, I too like to let my LSPs set up for a good long time before I buff 'em off. Last time I used Souveran I let it sit for a *long* time...and people like to say that'll cause issues :chuckle: :grinno:

In your example, I was thinking more along the lines of doing the 845 one day and the 476S a day or more later. I've never had problems doing it that way so who knows, maybe it helps in that regard :nixweiss

But...I'm starting to wonder if a W-O-W-O type approach might be warranted in cases where the pseudo-holograms with 476S are a problem

I'll chime in here. I've been using 885 for the past year. I've read about some people having issues with it but I've never had any issues. To me, it's really really easy to use. For me, I apply the 885 on an entire panel. I wait maybe a minute, maybe less and then I wipe it off. It doesn't matter how thick or thin I apply it, it comes off easy.

I usually spray my applicator pad with a little bit of straight water and apply it.

I'm not sure if I'm not waiting long enough, but I have to tell ya, this stuff is indestructible. On my black Cadillac, I applied 2 coats in October of '08. I've taken it to spray car wash twice in that amount of time. I used their pre-soak and then just went town with the spray. It is still beading up after almost 5 months. I'm now afraid I won't be able to remove it if I wanted to.

885 is also on my Jeep and my Subaru. The Jeep only has a single coat, applied in I don't know, Aug. or Sept of last year and the beading is just now dissipating. The Jeep hardly ever gets washed and sits in the sun, under a tree, and it's pretty abused, but I'm still amazed that the collinite has lasted that long.

simplybao- The "pseudo-hologram" issue is a real head-scratcher for me...I've used 476S for years and never had this happen until recently (same batch of 476S too) :nixweiss

VOC compliance issues:think2

Good guess, but nah, I bought a case of pre-VOC 476S and I've never used the post-VOC version. And anyhow, this didn't/then did happen with the exact same tin of wax.

I got the pseudo holograms one time with CMW. I love the look of that wax, but have to be careful when I use it, and make sure I wipe the car down very well with a QD after removal (sometimes it still happens). I have never had it happen with Collinite.

That'd what I did on the DenaliXL (thank goodness it worked) but it didn't fix it on my friend's Audi, not a bit :nixweiss

Well, here in NC, I tend to attribute it to the humidity. I don't notice it during the cooler months. Just a theory.

Ah, yeah, humidity can cause all sorts of issues. That's something I'll keep in mind, though it wouldn't explain my situation either.

Have you gotten these holograms when applying by hand or machine?

I simply can't remember :nixweiss It's been nearly a year since it happened on the Yukon and I didn't record whether I did it all by hand/machine or maybe used both

I can see the machine application getting a bit too aggressive (easy answer if that's what happened), but I have a vague memory of having done some of it by hand.

Mine happened when using 915 applied by PC over 476S (which was applied by hand). The holograms were certainly in the wax, as they were removed by alcohol. I have since stopped using a PC to apply any LSP, though that's probably just being paranoid. I suspected it was solvents in the 915 softening the underlying 476S, and moving it under the power of the PC. I've applied 915 to acrylic sealants using a PC with no problems. In both cases, I used a 4" red pad at speed 2.

how do you guys prep the car for collinite application? with zaino, they say you need to strip the car of all of the previous waxes for it to bond correctly, does the same apply for collinite?

i just dawn. clay. dawn again. you could also prep sol after if you want overkill. (FYI i'm removing 845 this way) :xyxthumbs

Isn't this true for all the products we work with? IMO, products need to be applied to a properly prepped surface.

(I find that Klasse AIO is a good pre-step.)

from zaino's instructions, it sounds like no fillers or other products should be under the z5/z2. i get the idea that it needs to be applied to cleaned/bare paint.

so i was wondering if this is the case with collinite, does it need to be on bare paint? if so, doesn't the all in ones have some type of filler also?

I find that Collinite isn't all that finicky about what you apply it over and I've never had any durability issues from applying it over other stuff.

My usual Collinite applications go over 1Z polishes that leave stuff behind (over PP on the Blazer and now over WPS on the Yukon). No compromising of the incredible durability.

When I used to switch the A8 to Collinite for the winter, I just put it right over the #16 that was already on there; no problems from that either.

Actually, right off-hand I can't think of *any* instance where I applied Collinite over bare paint  Oh yeah...the Volvo wagon, which I final-polished with #M PI-III MG. But the Collinite on that didn't last any longer than on any of my other vehicles.
