Collinite Super Doublecoat Auto Wax No. 476s

Adding to what etml12 posted, IME the look of 476S seems oddly dependent on the prep, moreso that with most LSPs for some reason.

It can look really, *REALLY* good, but it doesn't always and I mean on all kinds of different colors :nixweiss

With very good prep, it looked super on my Carbon Metallic Yukon and my pal's medium-dark blue metallic Jag. But I've seen it look pretty blah on decently prepped vehicles too. IMO it's the difference between "decent" and "very good" prep but many LSPs aren't like that.

Get the prep right, and IMO if there's a problem it won't be because you used 476S.

I've never been interested in Collinite 476s (or their other products) but I am curious: this is a carnauba wax, correct? If so, how is it that they can get such good longevity out of it? What makes it different than other carnauba's?

Also, what about the appearance? It seems that the big supporters mostly talk about how great it lasts and protects, but I rarely read much about how it looks.

I've never considered 476 a nuba. It has alot of synthetics in the chemistry to give it the durability. To me its a sealant that is labeled a wax.

Huh...I've even used it *on* trim, including rubber

Just another YMMV I suppose... :nixweiss

That's really weird, it stained most of my window molding and plastic side skirts pretty bad. Maybe it's the plastic used? I dunno. As I said before it's a good wax for durability, I've actually gotten results close to their claims with durability, unlike other products.

I do that also, even S100, I put it on very thin and let it dry. When I'm done with applying on the whole car, off it comes.

I do that with P21S and Pinnacle Sig Series II but I don't dare do it with the Collinite again :scared:

IME a lot of the staining comes from excess product drying in the material's pores/texture. And once Collinite sets up, well...it's *set up*. If you're gonna try LSPing these outside-the-box applications, use a W-O-W-O method and be sure you really do get it all off. Eh...or just use 845 instead. In fact, using 845 and *then* 476S seems to make 476S-issues less likely; the base of 845 probably smoothes out the surface a little bit so you get less excess 476S or something like that.

And hey, I bet there's a lot of YMMV anyhow- the application/buffing technique, the prep, the material, all sorts of things.

I was just surprised that somebody had such different experiences than I did. The first time I tried 476S like that I was expecting a real disaster, man was I relieved when things turned out OK.

Any wax that requires a flat head screw driver to get the lid off, isn't worth the $3 or $4.

I'd rather by a couple grout sponges.

LOL wow, a good durable wax that lasts up to six months and looks good for $3 and you don't want it?

did you find the 476 in the auto section or somewhere else?? sale section perhaps? i stopped at two of them and neither had any collinite stuff in auto section, but i didnt really think to look around.
